Songs You Hate, Part 47

Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:18 pm

I have not seen this thread in a while, so let's do it again.

I like Queensryche. I have no problem with them at all. They have an amazing sound. Operation:Mindcrime was a fantastic album. But, I refuse to listen to the song "Silent Lucidity". That is the worst rock ballad from the 1990s. Period.

"Carrie" by Europe would be, IMO, the worst rock ballad of the 1980s.

Anything by Celene Dion. Seriously, her voice can peel paint. Barbara Streisand (sp?) is a close second.

"Last Christmas" by Wham is sappy, superficial, intolerable garbage... which is of course the reason why it's on 24/7 during the end of the year. I think it needs to be killed with fire.

Anything by Adele. I think she is wayyyyy overrated and her voice is just whiney. I couldn't even listen to the radio last summer because of that damn Rolling in the Deep song. Another would be Fleetwood Mac. My folks just love them but I cringe every time they play it.

But as for hate, anything by what's left of the Bee Gees, most head banging music, anything by Dan Hill or Ron Sexsmith.
As for like, Down to the Bone, 1040East, for starters. You can see where I'm coming from.

I'd like to nominate two Katy Perry songs. "The one that got away" and "Last Friday night" are both songs that make me immediately look for something else on the radio. The rest of her stuff is barely tolerable, but I think these two are the worst.

Such a terrible song. How it is so popular totally escapes me. The lyrics sound like they were written by a 13 year old.

I don't mind her voice. What I dislike is that every song is about the same thing. Time to move on and change the subject. Every song doesn't have to be about an ex.

Here are some (otherwise) good songs that incessant airplay has ruined for me:

Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know
Fun. - We Are Young
Adele - Someone Like You
Adele - Rumor Has It
Adele - Set Fire to the Rain
The Wanted - Glad You Came
Rihanna - We Found Love
Edward Maya - Stereo Love
Maroon 5 - Payphone

Songs that I've disliked from the start:

Bruno Mars - Grenade
Bruno Mars - Every Day It Will Rain
Bruno Mars - Marry You
Pitbull - Back In Time
Nicki Minaj - Starships
Usher - Scream
One Direction - One Thing

Quoting Longhornmaniac (Reply 7):

Cute song!

Well I pretty much dislike/ am pathetic to all the music from my "generation". I don't pay attention to much of the music being made these days. I feel robbed that I missed out on the 80's.

Where have all the synths gone?

"Boondocks" by Little Big Town -- cashing in on the "I'm so redneck" country movement of the mid 2000's...at least one of the members of the band hails from Marietta, a huge suburb of Atlanta.

"We Found Love" -- Rihanna -- more squeaky door hinge vocals and overplayed.

"Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" -- does Michael Jackson even know what the lyrics are?

"Born This Way." -- sonic cacophony, mostly inane lyrics, and it almost makes the actual point of the song trite. On top of that, Lady Gaga takes herself far too seriously such that it saps the enjoyment out of a lot of her music.

"Firework." -- ugh, just can't stand it.

I'd also like to point out that everything related to the X-Factor that has made its way over the Atlantic, other than Leona Lewis, has been absolute crap. UK, if you continue to impose this crap on our airwaves without giving us the opportunity to vote on them...well, we did fight a war over that sort of thing a while ago. Just sayin'.

Throw in ALL the other emo bands, grunge, rap/hip-hop, alternacrap rockers post 1991.

Brilliantly done imo, but somehow I would expect you to have a different opinion

Rap & Hip Hop. I think I'm too old for that kind of stuff.

Justin Bieber and most all the boy bands. I think they were put together to make money and nothing more.

While I like some of Damon Albarn's music, I don't really like him. I think he's too full of himself and is critical of everything.
Is he ever happy?

My all time most unfavorite song of all time? "Wooly Bully" by Sam the Sham & The Pharohs. That song is a dirge. Thank God you don't ever hear it anymore.

One of my most hated songs is from an alleged great - Paul McCarthy of Beatles fame. 39 years ago he did a song "My Love Does It Good". Sappy, well below his quality, strictly top 40, weak musicianship. Part of my dislike is due to the job I was doing then, the radio I was using under the condition could only consistently get the top 40 AM station here in NYC (WABC) and it was on heavy rotation, like every 90 minutes. Even to this day if I hear the song, I have to change the channel.

That stupid "love song baby" song by Bieber's "girlfriend" is just as horrid. I want to put a bullet through the radio when I hear "Tonight, Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae too. That song makes me violent and angry at whoever decided that was a good song and good band.

We work on an open area desk and take turns putting background music.

Two of my deskmates put typical pop-rock radio so I have developed quite strong feelings against:

- Shakira
- Paulina Rubio
- Adele
- Maroon 5
- Rihanna/Beyoncé/Alicia Keys
- Katy Perry
- Anything feat. Pitbull or David Guetta
- La oreja de van gogh
- Alejandro Sanz
- Ana Torroja
- El canto del loco / Dani Martín

The list is not complete by any means, and continues to grow.

When my daughter was about 12 years old (late 90s), she had a period where she'd be blasting either Celine Dion's Titanic song, or (shudder) Aqua's Barbie Girl.

After that we moved her room to the basement .

I would have to say songs that seem to mimic other songs but the artist claims otherwise examples include Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" hooks from Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" a take on Madonna"s "Vogue". Not surprising their is an alleged feud between Madonna and Lady Gaga. Remixes don't work much ether.

Songs that I find bad and just annoying includes...

Baha Men "Who let the dogs out"
Macarena the ultimate public dance impromptu song of the '90s.
Celine Dion "My hart will go on" Kate had it right ...
J.lo post 2000
Anything Gwen No Hollaback or bananas
Anything Brit Brit
Anything Katy Perry Hot but she can't sing
Boy Bands
Bieber

I lived in the Seattle area when the Mariners were making a run for the World Series. This was their theme song. Every radio station in Seattle played it. EVERY station. The "pop" stations played "Thong Song" by Sisqo also. I want to tear my hair out at both of these songs.

I don't know if anyone else in the US has "Lifestyle Lift" commercials, but, here in the Bay Area, they are being done by Debbie Boone. Yes, she sings part of the worst song of the 1970s. Possibly the worst song ever. Don't make me say it. I was young when that piece of garbage was on the radio every five minutes and it still gives me nightmares...

From reading through all the replies, I gather that the little wimp from Canada is not too "popular"........very few songs "bother me", because I never hear therm; the only time I ever listen to the radio is when I take my fiancee' for dialysis, and then I alternate between reading a book or listening to Marc Levin on the radio; I NEVER listen to music on the radio, unless it's with my iPod.

Speaking of everyone's "least favorite" Justin B..........I just read in a tabloid (at Kroger's) that he thinks he's a "bad-ass"; likes to get in fist fights ! (Lol ) ( I can just see some guy turning him into "Justin the pretzel" ! ) Lol !'

There IS one song that I actually DO hate, and I have to "suffer it" every now and then; "Harper Valley PTA" (originally by Jeanie C. Riley I think); There's a little Country Store in the little village we live in, and It's owned by by a family we are great friends with; every Friday evening, they stay open late and a bunch of "locals" come down and play country music; all of the people that play music are friends of ours; one couple, Alan and Jeanie, are the best of the best as far as friends, but Jeanie almost always sings "Harper Valley PTA"; I'm not real good at listening to anything I don't like, so anytime she sings that damned song, I always walk over to my friend, Rob's house and "visit" for 10 minutes or so.

My fiancee', Miss Arlie, some times gets up and sings Chuck Berry songs........mainly "Maybelline"...(which is a REAL treat! "Lol" & "oh Wow!" )

And I see there are quite a few Celine Dione "haters" on here..........did you ever get a load of that "dork" she got married to ? Ugh ! (at least she had the sense to quit !) (thank heavens !)

Everything by U2, REM and most songs by Bruce Springsteen.

Larry...........funny you should mention U2 and Springsteen; I just finished reading this GREAT book, and Springsteen and Bono were both in the book; if you think their music sucks, you really oughta read this book ! They BOTH "suck" in a bunch of other ways, (mainly chiseling on their taxes) and the book tells all about it)

Yes, she sings part of the worst song of the 1970s. Possibly the worst song ever. Don't make me say it. I was young when that piece of garbage was on the radio every five minutes and it still gives me nightmares...

No worries. This should help cure you as this is a much better version.
So enjoy.

I'll check it out. I've always been suspicious of all of their grandstanding on political issues.

Some more:

Fatboy Slim - The Rockafella Skank would be in my good books if it didn't have that really annoying buzzy sound effect in the middle of the song that pitches up to the point where it actually hurts to hear.

Britney Spears - Gimme More: Released around the time she hit rock bottom and the song reflects it very well.

Pitbull ft. Chris Brown - International Love: Annoying lyrics, annoying tune, annoying everything.

Ke$ha: Pretty much all of her songs. Has anyone ever heard her sing without Auto-tune?

David Guetta ft. Akon - Sexy B*tch: Good beat, trashy lyrics and Akon's voice isn't my cup of tea.

James Blunt - You're Beautiful
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
The Badger Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPvRVK9YbZM
Peanut Butter Jelly Time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8MDNFaGfT4
The biggest mistake made by most human beings: Listening to only half, understanding just a quarter and telling double.

Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know

I do like the version by Walk Off the Earth, however Sarah Blackwood may have something to do with that

Rihanna

Dear Lord no.

Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Rebecca Black as yet, though I admit that she's not been around much since she pissed the internet off with Friday.

There is no "better version" of that song. Only less annoying and less stupid versions.

U2 and Springsteen

I find them both annoying and over rated.

Anything by Bruno Mars... his lyrics make me cringe

I completely agree. Worst thing is though... I've seen him in concert, and even though his music might be catchy live, he's still a twat...

Last Friday night

Agreed

Quoting planejamie (Reply 11):
anything by Justin Bieber, One Direction and any other crap "bands" or "artists" that are ridiculously overrated.

Agreed

Quoting luckyone (Reply 14):
"We Found Love" -- Rihanna -- more squeaky door hinge vocals and overplayed.

Anything by her is pretty much rubbish.

Quoting luckyone (Reply 14):
"Don't Stop Till You Get Enough"

Don't mess with the classics...

To make my contribution, I'll throw in a controversial suggestion:
Bruce Springsteen - Radio Nowhere.

I mean come on... It's just the same boring guitar riff over and over, be it a verse or the chorus.
