Natwest/Ulster Bank/Royal Bank Of Scotland No Pay

Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:10 pm

Anyone caught up in this fiasco too ? My wages were due to be paid into my account this morning but because my company is banking with one of the above no one in my company has been paid today . Not a big deal for me as I have plenty of funds but for some of my colleagues their direct debits and more importantly mortages are going un paid too .

People especially the Elderly are not getting their social welfare payments and people buying and selling property are stuck between completion.

Whatever happens Natwest/Ulster Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland have alot to answer for .

Link to news story here :

Ulster Bank has said 78 of its branches will remain open until 7pm today, and open on Sunday if necessary, to assist customers affected by a delay in processing certain payments.

The bank has been hit by serious technical problems resulting in a two-day delay in processing some payments to individual bank accounts.
More than 100,000 customers have been affected, with Social Welfare payments, salary transfers and direct debits disrupted.
Ulster Bank said concerned customers should check with their branch or the website for updates.

When this type of problem becomes try public a lot of businesses will take care of their customers, like not charging late fees. For those customers who are hit with various fees, like late charges, returned checks, etc. then the banks need to pick those costs up. Make their customers free of costs for the problem.

Government investigations into the causes of the problem can be handled independently of the helping customers.

Well, since tuesday night, Ireland and the United Kingdom have been united in........ being broke.

Also caught up in it here - had rent due to my account (which due to very heavy expenses last month, I was relying on to keep me going til payday) which still is not showing in my account. My pay is due this coming thursday and I'm also nervous now if the problem will even be fixed by then.

To top it all off, my prescription medication (which I REALLY REALLY need) runs out in two days....

My savings account works on 7 day notice, so no help there, and my folks also bank with UB so they cant help out.

I am absolutely, totally, utterly, completely LIVID.

What I simply dont get is why, given that Royal Bank of Scotland / Natwest / Ulster Bank operate across two different countries (Ireland and UK - they may have operations elsewhere, I am unsure), why could they not run a secondary system in Ireland for use when the main system, located in the UK, goes down?

In addition, its been revealed that in-house IT staff, 190 people, directly employed by RBS, who were based at a technology centre in Dublin, were sacked and the operation for the RBS group outsourced to India last year.

It just baffles me, and people are starting to ask if this is in fact a liquidity crunch at RBS?
