Claiming VAT Back From A Student Discount Purchase

Tue Jul 03, 2012 5:49 pm

Hello,

Just a quick question (and before I start, I'm not in the mood for some light tax evasion ) - If I purchase a Macbook Pro through the education store (either over the phone, on the website or in store) could I get my dad (who is VAT registered) to buy it and claim the VAT back together with the student discount if i'm an employee?

Just curious - If I can save 400 quid, I'd like to obviously.

Cheers!

No its either or .

Your father buys as a business expense and claims back the VAT at quarter end or you buy at the discounted price.

Trying through a business to reclaim the VAT for an educational purchase would exactly be tax evasion (as would be private use of a tax-deducted corporate machine).

I meant if it wasn't possible (or at least legally dubious) I wasn't going to do it. You don't ask, you don't get.

It's not legal. Does that answer your question?
