No Wonder Holden Has Troubles

Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:45 pm

Police in Australia say that hundreds of motors and transmissions have been systematically looted by employees and sold on the black market. The drivetrains were shipped to Holden and meant to power the VE Commodore (G8 in the US). The most interesting part of this story is that Holden had no idea this was happening until police arrived because they have no parts tracking system within. They don't even know what they have where. Holden management needs to be fired.

Apparently there was "no effective tracking system" of engines and transmissions at the plant and therefore very little way to check where incoming inventory ended up. Parts were checked in, but there was apparently no way to know what happened to them after that.

That is absolutely unbelievable.

Everybody's hand is in somebody else's pocket it seems.

Holden have secured a very generous hand-out from the tax payer . Described by the Prime Minister as a "strategic investment", the AUD 275 million subsidy is part of a package designed to keep GM (the owners of Holden) producing components in Australia. Well, it might and it might not. But at least it will cover the cost of the missing parts.

Are you kidding me? In this day and age? You can bet that GM is going to kick some serious ass at Holden! There is just no excuse for this kind of thievery. Management? What management?

How can any company of that size not have inventory controls? It's one of the most important tools a company can have to track and control costs. Whether you have one employee or 10,000, you MUST keep track of your inventory, too much and you're losing money, not enough and you fall behind. Simple really.

And the police had to find out before them. Unbelievable.

They ought to be packing their bags at this moment. If not, then GM and Holden deserve to get body slammed!
