Earnest Borgnine Has Passed

Sun Jul 08, 2012 9:55 pm

Hey guys just got a pop-up that says that Earnest Borgnine has passed away.....he was 95.

Most of us are probably are probably going to remember him from one of two TV shows, McHales's navy where he played the title character and Airwolf where he played Dominic Santini. He also did a lot of movie work. He was in The Wild Bunch, Ice Station Zebra and The Expendables just recently.

I also believe he was a licensed pilot and served in a combat engineer unit in WWII.

I goofed.

He was the Records Clerk in "Red" not The Expendables..

I forgot to list his role in the original "The Posiden Adventure"

Hi!

May he rest in peace. When I was a kid I so wanted to be him in the back of Airwolf! His laid back character in the show made a good compliment to Jan Micael Vincent's more intense personality. Similar to George Peppard in the A Team and Angela Landsbury in Murder She Wrote he went from more serious movies to more family oritentated TV (I think).

Many thanks,

Pierre

Quoting L-188 (Thread starter):
served in a combat engineer unit in WWII.

He was in the US Navy from 1934 to 1944 and was discharged as Gunner's Mate 1st Class. He recieved an honorary CPO rating from the Navy for all his work with Naval veterans and their families.

I saw him interviewed just last week and he looked great and was sharp as a tack.

Most people don't know it, however Borgnine won the best actor Oscar for 1955s "Marty".

RIP Mr Borgnine

RIP Ernie, a brilliant actor who will be greatly missed. Loved him as Mike Rogo in The Poseidon Adventure, and will never forget him as Dominic Santini in Airwolf!

Thoughts and Prayers to Tova, his widow, and the rest of his family and friends.

And don't forget his most recent and important gig:

The voice of Mermaid Man on Sponge Bob!

(I know some here will be screaming "Nooooooo....!!!!!")

And interestingly it is none other than "McHale's Navy" co-star Tim Conway voicing his partner in geriatric crime fighting Barnacle Boy! I am sure no kids would otherwise know of Mr. Borgnine if not for his voice it that series (I always thought it was just a couple of sound-alikes).

Rest in Peace Mr. Borgnine.

There are not very many people from the movie industry that I'm very inclined to "miss" very much when they pass on, but Earnest Borgnine is in a whole different class. He's been around for so long, and I have seen him so many times in so many movies, (and every movie he's ever been in, he made a huge contribution to it), I will really miss him.

The other thing about Ernie Borgnine has always been, in real life he's a classic gentleman, and a devoted husband to his gorgeous and delightful wife of many years, Tova. What a lady.......what a devoted couple ! If only all great people could enjoy such long and prosperous lives...........

Rest in peace Ernie, you will be sorely missed by so many people.
