*** SPOILER ALERT, DO NOT READ BELOW ***
I just got home from the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and I can't begin to tell you how long I had been looking forward to finally seeing this movie. I'm not that into "super-hero" movies, but this trilogy really got me hooked. My thoughts on the movie itself:
1.) Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I just saw it and everything hasn't sunk-in yet, but to me it felt like this final installment was more "extreme" compared to the first two (though its the finale, so its justified I guess). At times it also seemed like the acting/dialogue wasn't always as smooth/fluid as it was in the prequels.
2.) About 1/3 of the way through the movie I started to get a strong hunch that Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was going to become Robin at the end. I was still a bit surprised it actually ended up that way because one of my friends told me that around the time the second movie came out Christopher Nolan said he'd never put Robin in his films.
3.) For a second there, I thought it was shaping up to be an awful ending with Bruce Wayne/Batman being dead. Thankfully that wasn't the case, but I still think it would've been cooler to have him remain as Batman and continue to watch over the city. Maybe something similar to the ending of the first movie, but I guess his character's too old.
4.) Overall it was still an entertaining film. I'd probably put it ahead of Batman Begins, but The Dark Knight might have been just as good if not slightly better. Its too bad that Christian Bale won't be making any more appearances as Batman, though the way the movie ended there could be some sort of spin-off/sequel with Robin at some point.
