The Dark Knight Rises - What Did You Think?

Fri Jul 20, 2012 9:18 am

*** SPOILER ALERT, DO NOT READ BELOW ***

I just got home from the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and I can't begin to tell you how long I had been looking forward to finally seeing this movie. I'm not that into "super-hero" movies, but this trilogy really got me hooked. My thoughts on the movie itself:

1.) Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I just saw it and everything hasn't sunk-in yet, but to me it felt like this final installment was more "extreme" compared to the first two (though its the finale, so its justified I guess). At times it also seemed like the acting/dialogue wasn't always as smooth/fluid as it was in the prequels.

2.) About 1/3 of the way through the movie I started to get a strong hunch that Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was going to become Robin at the end. I was still a bit surprised it actually ended up that way because one of my friends told me that around the time the second movie came out Christopher Nolan said he'd never put Robin in his films.

3.) For a second there, I thought it was shaping up to be an awful ending with Bruce Wayne/Batman being dead. Thankfully that wasn't the case, but I still think it would've been cooler to have him remain as Batman and continue to watch over the city. Maybe something similar to the ending of the first movie, but I guess his character's too old.

4.) Overall it was still an entertaining film. I'd probably put it ahead of Batman Begins, but The Dark Knight might have been just as good if not slightly better. Its too bad that Christian Bale won't be making any more appearances as Batman, though the way the movie ended there could be some sort of spin-off/sequel with Robin at some point.
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

I just got back from seeing it.

Long movie, but I liked it and while this is claimed to be the final installment, they sure left the door wide open for a sequel.

I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a magnificent job. Robin? You never know................

Just my take on it.

Y'know what.. I was mildly underwhelmed. Sure, there were bits I loved, especially Joseph Gordon-Levitt's role. Catwoman was predictable in her role, but lovely. However, after the previous installment, this falls way short. Bane was a let down, though Heath Ledger admittedly set the bar pretty damn high. The Joker was pure evil, with his actions and logic terrifying you, the viewer. Bane was not only non-terrifying, he sounded ridiculous at certain points with his mechanical voice. And defusing a time-bomb is a plot-line as old as action movies themselves. Compared to that, the boat scene from The Dark Knight was far more original.
Cinematically, like most things Nolan, it was a treat to watch. Loved the breathtaking opening scene with the C-130/ E110 Bandeirante. The movie as a whole just did not live up to the hype, is all.
