2012/2013 EPL Predictions

Sat Aug 18, 2012 3:46 pm

Season's starting today and I couldn't be more excited. Here are my predictions for the upcoming season.

Top four:

1. Manchester United - I hate them, but RVP is the best striker in the league and he will make the difference in a very, very close race.
2. Manchester City - It will be very, very close, but I don't think they will edge ManU with RVP.
3. Chelsea - Much improved compared to last year and they made a lot of good signings, but I don't think they're at the level of the two Manchester clubs. It all depends on Torres.
4. Tottenham - They're going to lose Modric, but I think he was vastly overrated anyways. They really need a striker, though. They're a fairly solid team overall.

Bottom three:

18. Wigan - I love Roberto Martinez, but he won't be able to pull off any more miracles. They never deserved to be in the EPL to begin with.
19. Norwich - Paul Lambert's departure will have a big impact.
20. Southampton - Not enough quality and they moved up too fast. Kinda reminds me of Derby County a few years back.

Top scorer:

RVP! He's in the form of his life and he seems to have gotten over his injury woes. By far the best striker in the game and he will get so many opportunities with Valencia, Nani, Young and even Rooney setting him up.

Other notes:

-I'm watching the Liverpool-WBA game and the 'Pool looks brutal. I don't think Brendan Rogers is good enough to lead them to the top four. Suarez and Carroll won't score the goals they need to compete.

-I'm not convinced with Arsenal's new signings. I think Wenger's lost the plot and they've become a selling club. Looks like Alex Song is on his way out, too. RVP'S absence will be felt. Maybe 5th place.

-QPR has a chance to get relegated. I can't stand Mark Hughes and his cocky attitude and he had a really close call last year. Not convinced their new signings will make all the much of a difference. I don't know by Hughes is so highly rated by so many pundits.

-I don't think Newcastle will be as good as they were last year. All depends on how Demba Ba and Pappis Cisse play. Ba really faded in the second half of the season. They'll probably make the top eight, though.

-If Tevez has his head on straight, he could be the player of the season. I just don't think he can, though.

I think the Toon will build on last season's finish and solidify themselves once again as one of the top clubs in the EPL (and show that their performance last season wasn't a fluke). Had it not been for Chelsea winning the Champions League, Newcastle would be playing in it instead of the Europa League. They will finish in the top 4 this season.

I know Newcastle isn't happy about having to play a Europa League match against Greek side Atromitos this Thursday in Athens and play Chelsea two days later. They tried to get the Chelsea match moved, but that was refused and attempts to have the E.L. match moved also failed. More than likely they'll sit most of their starters (or play them sparingly) to save them for the Chelsea match, which is really a much more important match (any points they may get in the Chelsea match could play a role in where they may play in Europe next season).

A team from Manchester will win the EPL this season, so if you're making a futures bet on the EPL, put money down on both teams and hedge your bets.

It was Tottenham, not Newcastle, that finished 4th. The Toon was 5th last year and they had a great season. I think they're a top half team for sure, but I don't know if they're Champions League level yet. I'm impressed they managed to keep everyone this year and nobody went for Ba or Cisse. But the Toon have a really impressive and solid team overall. I think they'll finish 5th, possibly 4th, with Arsenal in 6th place and Tottenham taking the final spot. Arsenal looked really weak today. They need to make some big changes if they ever wish to compete again. Wenger is hoping and praying that the UEFA Fair Play rules help his team out, but they're not going to make any difference if he signs duds like Chamack, Gervinho and Arshavin. Most of his signings have been bombs.

No doubt! This one will go down to the wire again, just like last year. Kagawa and RVP could make the difference, though.

Never deserved? That they moved through the divsions and gained promotion playing decent football should be held against them? Don't judge the merits of a club being in the Premier League on the basis of their low attendances. They played well enough today against Chelsea to suggest it might not be as bad a struggle this season as it has recently, especially after conceding 2 goals in the 1st 7 minutes.

20. Southampton - Not enough quality and they moved up too fast. Kinda reminds me of Derby County a few years back.

Gave Man City plenty of problems today with their breakaways and I daresesy there's 3 or 4 of the more established sides who may be worried that they tighten up their defence.
