Saudi Princess 'does A £5m Runner From 5* Hotel

Saudi Princess 'does a £5m runner from five star Paris hotel'

As moonlight flits go it was one of the more brazen.
If you were trying to dodge paying a hotel bill of £5million you might just slip out of a side door and walk away quietly with some hand luggage.
However, when a Saudi princess tried it from a five-star establishment in Paris she was just a little bit too noticeable – what with her retinue of 60 servants in tow and a mountain of suitcases.

Maybe the rules for obtaining diplomatic immunity need to be changed . She clearly should have been arrested. The fraudster is allowed to continue her crimes in the meantime .

Thanks, OA260, interesting insight into a 'world' that we mere mortals cannot really comprehend.

As it happens, I noticed this arvo that my petrol gauge is showing close to zero.

I'll bear this story in mind tomorrow, as I shell out the sixty bucks or so it will cost me to fill the tank nowadays........

The hotel is located Avenue d'Iena, across the river from the Eiffel Tower. An upscale residential/business avenue.

How many Saudi princesses are there? Hundreds?

This Saudi princess chose to stay in the wrong hotel.

Rather than staying in one of these top-name hotels owned by the Sheikh of Qatar she should have chosen the Plaza Athénée, George V or another of the top-name hotel owned by Saudi prince al Walid bin Talal. It may have saved her from trouble.

There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

It seems that in this case, there is no need to change rule. While this lady (I read she "skipped" a shopping bill worth GBP 15 M before - quite an interesting character I must say) may be protected by diplomatic immunity, her entourage - AFAIK - is not.
So the hotel could demand demand say: GBP 4 M back from them and tell the 'princess' to show some consideration ...

Yeah I think the Saudi embassy ends up footing the bill every time.

Well, maybe, but I'm glad OA260 put it up anyway; as I hadn't heard about it; and it is somewhat amusing.

This is similar to what my mom did with the child support money (some 17 year olds in my day were pleading for the latest nintendo or somesuch, or cars... me, I was campaigning for toothpaste; thanks mom).

Article 9 of the Vienna Convention states:
"The receiving State may at any time and without having to explain its decision, notify the sending State that the head of the mission or any member of the diplomatic staff of the mission is persona non grata or that any other member of the staff of the mission is not acceptable. In any such case, the sending State shall, as appropriate, either recall the person concerned or terminate his functions with the mission. A person may be declared non grata or not acceptable before arriving in the territory of the receiving State."

If this is the normal behaviour of this princess, perhaps the simplest would be for the member states of the EU to simply declare her "persona non grata". That would clip her wings a bit. No more shopping trips to Paris, Milan, London. She'll just have to put up with Dubai Duty Free instead.

What would her punishment in Saudi Arabia be? I vote for that.
