Typhoon Sanba Has Okinawa & Korea Bullseye

Sat Sep 15, 2012 1:16 pm

Huge storm due to hit the main island of Okinawa and other Ryukyu islands through most of tomorrow, and it will press on to the Korean peninsula if the track holds. We have seen some spectacular changes in local weather here in Honshu with wide temperature swings and fierce thunderstorms since late Thursday.

Sanba means business, with sustained winds holding at 115 mph and gusts to 140 (235 km/h). The eye is still very well-defined so tomorrow will not be a pretty day by any means in Naha.

The water vapor image on this one is spectacular:

damn what a storm!

Buddy of mine who was visiting family in Okinawa evacuated his family back to Hiroshima. Pretty scary stuff there.

Yes, that looks severe indeed.

The last thing Japan needs is another natural disaster.
