Shocked To Find He Died

Sun Sep 16, 2012 5:44 am

My partner and I just got back from seeing "Finding Nemo 3-D". That is always a good film. The preview for "Despicable Me 2" was HILARIOUS!! I came back and went on imdb.com to see who did which voices. I couldn't remember except Ellen. I was saddend to find the voice of the dentist and former future Mr. Bernidette had died last year! We in The States had seen Bill Hunter not only in "Priscilla" but in "Strictly Ballroom" and "Murial's Wedding" and was brilliant in each, IMO.

Who have you been shocked to find out died?

An individual with my exact same 1st, middle, last, & birth date. And it gets worse; apparently our SSNs were off by two non-consecutive digits, neither in the last four. I never met the guy, but found out he died last year when I went to renew my driver license. Though all manner of tags have supposedly been put in, I've been told a few times that I can expect this to be an issue for life. Or at least until we go Biometric.

Ok, so that's not a celebrity, but it sure did give me a surprise.

It used to seem like Bill Hunter was in every Australian movie ever made. This isn't true, as there were some surprisingly big (for Australia) films he wasn't in (Mad Max series, Man from Snowy River, Crocodile Dundee, The Castle), but it felt like it was.

My dad has a very similar story. A dear friend that he has known from college have nearly identical SSN as well. Dad was in Jersey, Jack was in Michigan when they got their SS cards, and the last digit was only off by four, all the other numbers were identical. They didn't realize this for several years after they met and got chills when they were in the process of discovering it.

In a weird relation to this post though, Jack is evidently in his last days suffering from Alzheimer's.

In general I am completely indifferent to celebrities/actors/sports people who snuff it, but every so often it strikes me..

Of the ones recently, Leslie Nielsen. That had a big impact on me because I have laughed at all his movies since I was a small child. It really felt like "the day the music died" referred to in the song 'American Pie'.

I also recall a similar feeling, but to lesser degree when Pete Postlethwaite died. I don't know why, it just did.
