Anyone Here Been On A Tiger Cruise?

Wed Sep 19, 2012 9:09 am

I realize it's not really Aviation but it is a Military subject.

I spent a week on the USS Milius DDG 69 sailing from Hawaii to San Diego.

It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Anyone else experience this ?

Yes, but I was on the "other" side. I was part of the crew when we had one. Was fun, even though I had to answer the same questions 100's of times. "Whats that big black thing that goes roundie roundie on top of the ship?" A damn air search radar, didn't you listen when the kid next to you asked that?

It was a great time, the kids and other family members enjoyed it and learned alot about what daddy does. (All male crews on combat ships back then, they wouldnt even allow girls to go on the cruise)

Same as Dan except we went from Hawaii to Alameda, Ca. I was crew on a Nuclear powered Guided Missle Cruiser and I brought my dad and my brother on board for the ride.

They had a great time. They were allowed to fire the chain guns, drive the boat, watch us shoot the 5" guns. It was cool to have them on board for the last 5 days of that cruise.

Glad you had fun!
