Fox "News" - Nice Fact Checking

Fri Sep 21, 2012 4:36 pm

I am no fan of BHO and won't shed a tear if he's voted out in Nov, but boy oh boy, these guys go way out of their way to make him look bad. They don't even worry about letting the facts get in the way of a good story. Of course they are simply preaching to the converted so I seriously doubt their rant would change anyone's vote. They really should take "News" out of their name. Nice that they only ran the retraction on Twitter according to the article.

They didnt retract anything nor did they state is as fact, but as a joke.

Seems spot on IMHO.

Worth a laugh

Twisting the truth for a laugh and to rile up a few people? Who'd think the mainstream media would ever misrepresent the truth! They can't die quick enough as far as I'm concerned.

Clearly states it was a joke. I don't see the big deal.

No, I don't think they said it was a joke at all. That's not the way the article reads. Also, they DID retract via Twitter saying it was an old photo etc. So since they were going on during the show about Obama's too busy meeting with pirates to meet with Israel etc, I'd say they were dead serious. That network is the joke. Seriously - they are just a propaganda machine.

Why does anyone in America complain about a " liberal bias" in the news media since there is Fox News to provide a conservative bias?

If that were the case, they wouldn't have made a point of clarifying that the photo was from 2009. They did clarify, though.

Without seeing the original spot it's rather hard to judge if it was a joke or not. But one thing's for sure; no one is ever going to win a Pulitzer with the headline "Fox News warps facts to fit agenda shock!".

Because the left thinks everything the left says is correct. They go crazy that Fox has a bias towards the right but MSNBC, NBC, CNN they can be bias to the left all they want that is ok. There is a reason Fox News has great ratings. Speaking of that we need to realize Fox number 1 priority is making money.

Is it a fact that multiple Romney campaign advisers are at the same time official Fox "News" analysts in a presumable journalistic function?

I am increasingly baffled at the practically total lack of any kind of media ethics oversight in the US.

How so? Even BILD looks like the epitome of journalistic integrity compared to the pigsty at Fox, and that's saying a lot.

Oversight? Regulating the media? Sounds like a pretty big constitutional problem there. The government already has rules on what can't be shown and said on certain channels at certain times etc.. Now there should be an oversight on how they report the news. The consumer can decide which channel they like which they don't.

That''s perhaps saying a lot about Fox News, but not much - if anything - about the rest of the US media.
Besides, you mentioned ethics oversight and Romney's campaign advisers working for Fox. In this respect it does not look that much better in Germany. Remember Roland Koch helping to axe ZDF's Editor in Chief Nikolaus Brender?

MSNBC is very much the liberal equivalent of FOX and is usually widely denounced even on this site. CNN is just there to make money and overall has little political agenda, focusing more on the celebrity aspects of news than the political ones (although I'm baffled as to why they loved the idiotic "Occupy" movement so much).

BTW, the parent companies of all those outlets are actually pretty conservative, being that they're megacorporations and all.

You'd actually be surprised at how often the government tries to tell news outlets what to say (or what NOT to say), mostly in the print (newspaper) business.

If any of you fully read the story you would have noted that this was a real photo taken by the Obama Administration back in 2009 as a joke for a dinner party. So reusing it as a joke is fine with me and I guess the Obama Administration thought so too because they reused it later that same day. Now the point Fox News was trying to make was very real. The President blew off a requested meeting with the Prime Minister of Israel....to go on David Letterman

Klaus did neither mention 'government' nor 'regulation'. It is fair to assume that he was takling about media self-control. This is how it works (or how it is supposed to work) here.

So where do you see the "big constitutional problem"?

The report says it's a joke...that's not how Fox and Friends presented it. But if a picture's worth a thousand words, a video must be worth a lifetime:

Yeah...after the show was over. That's like saying to national TV that you're gay and then tweeting "No, it's just a joke. He's not really gay"...far more people will have watched the show than read the tweet.

Quoting flymia (Reply 10):
There is a reason Fox News has great ratings.

Maybe because it's the only conservative channel? When you have MSNBC, CNN, NBC, among other networks with more liberal leanings, your audience is spread across those three channels. How many other big conservative channels exist?

Only idiots wouldn't take that as a joke. He's meeting with a pirate for crying out loud...

Fox and Friends drives me crazy, but fox isn't alone. MSNBC is the equivalent on the other end of the spectrum... both channels are television for fools.
