Anyone Like Kentucky Fried Chicken

Thu Sep 27, 2012 12:06 pm

I'm in St Petersburg, my hotel is close to a KFC, I'm having cravings for it, it might just be too hard to resist. Most of the time I'm completely uninterested in KFC but sometimes I just get this irresistible urge to eat it, it can be very satisfying in a greasy kind of way.

Does anyone else like it?

I don't. I'd rather pick up a stale sandwich at 7-Eleven than frequent a fast "food" shop.

Sure.... if I'm constipated and need relief, one meal of greasy KFC gets things "moving" again!!! That's about all it's good for!!!

Do they have lots of chicken nuggets and curry sauce?

Then I'm all for it!

Sure I like KFC.

When I get my retirement check from Yum Brands, or the dividend check from my stock.

My personal opinion, which didn't make me popular when I was at the RSC in Louisville, was that chicken on the bone is a dying food concept in the US.

However, it continues to grow in many countries. Still the most popular food concept in China by a huge margin, and doing very, very well in several other countries.

Yep, I admit it. It's my favorite guilty pleasure...and I only allow myself a visit two or three times a year. I know it's bad for me and it's terribly greasy, but I love it.

No, I prefer just about any other fast food chain over KFC. I like beef more, plus the way that the suppliers for KFC treat the chicken (as seen in several videos) doesn't make me want to go there.

And I know what you mean, it's a good guilty pleasure for me. Don't eat it that much really but when it is available I'll jump at it.

And so you know just how sick I am: I even really like the awful Double Down, which is essentially a horrifying heart attack in a wrapper..... again not something I eat often at all..... but YUMMM!

I call these my "pregnant cravings", and I get them for all types of food/drink....and when I get that craving, stay the hell outta my way because I need to satisfy it LOL! I get them for:
>KFC
>White Castle
>Wendy's Frosty & French Fries (I know, weird, but it's salty AND sweet, i dunno, it really is a pregnant craving LOL!)
>Eggplant Rollatini
>Combos (the pretzel ones with the cheese inside)
>Black Jelly Beans (I keep a stash of those in the house though since I can really only find them around Easter LOL)
>Baby Ruth bar
.....and the list goes on, no wonder I am a fat ass. Luckily these cravings only hit once in a blue moon and I eat VERY healthy the rest of the time!!!

I never get cravings for it, but if I'm on a road-trip and there is one on the highway, I'll stop in for lunch.

With that said, I can't stand the chicken! At least not the chicken on the bone. Something about the skin just grosses me out. The only things I order are the Spicy Big Crunch (before they discontinued it here and replaced it with this "Zinger" thing), one of those grilled wraps, or popcorn chicken. I'm not a big fries guy, but on the rarest of occasions I'll get a small fries and gravy (guilty pleasure).

In spite of this I once ate at KFC. I thought it was delicious! But that was ten years ago.

Not me. For the most part fried chicken is awful. Too little meat with too much bone and it's absolutely covered in grease.

Even before eating there I didn't like the concept of a bucket of fried chicken, so for the two years I lived in Paris and went to a movie theater that had one nearby, I never entered the premises, while I often went to the McDonald's next door.

Recently I ate there for the first time with colleagues and found it awful. I like chicken/poultry that tastes something even without the skin (and has bones that don't feel like cartilage), and prefer the legs. Also, all that grease made me sick, and it takes something to get me sick !

I'm not a fan. If I'm in the mood for fast food fried chicken, Bojangles is the far superior choice. Otherwise, I prefer to make it myself. I'm also a fan of a chicken and waffles restaurant that's opened up in Raleigh - Beasley's Chicken + Honey (http://www.ac-restaurants.com/beasleys/) - the owner/chef, Ashley Christensen, has taken an old grocery store, turned half of the first level into Beasley's, the other half into a burger place (Chuck's), and the basement into a speakeasy liquor bar (Fox).

http://www.nosvc.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/DSC_1093.jpg - not my image, but a good representation of the chicken and waffles there.

Oh yes! I get a craving for some Kentucky Fried Chicken at times. I find them to be top class in fast-food, though their fries are probably the worst in the business.

KFC is good stuff and despite the grease, healthier than most other fast food. Just don't eat too much KFC or fast food.

yup, I do get this weird craving for KFC every now and then. I'd put on my hat, sunglasses and a big scarf and get the chicken to go (My friends in Paris don't think it cool at all to go eat at KFC). But boy, are they ever satisfying when you have the craving (this happens every few months when I am feeling really healthy and think that I could take in all that grease). I don't go to KFC when I travel though....I'd rather try local eateries, even fast food places.

I had it last week as a colleague of mine wanted to eat lunch there. Actually was nicer than I thought I had the boneless box with chicken strips and coleslaw. One thing I like in the USA we don't have here is the biscuits
( savory scones ) . I woudnt have it more than a few times a year but still enjoyed it. Was not greasy either so maybe thats why I liked it more.

Yeah, well. Last time I had one of those I had to be in bed for five days with a bad case of food poisoning. Not in Germany, of course, but I learned to stay away from those sandwiches anyway, even if I am in Sweden.

I do enjoy KFC once in a while. Might sound corny, but it´s sort of nostalgic too as when I was growing up it was probably the only fast food chain we had in Mexico City (The first McDonald´s in Mexico opened around 1985) and my father loved it. Thus, most Sundays, as a child, off to the KFC it was. Nowadays I get a craving once in a while. I prefer chicken on the bone, skin, grease and all. Those nuggets and "boneless" pieces I find rather soylentgreenish.

I prefer "El Pollo Loco" myself, though, and it´s healthier. But then you can argue all that grilled chicken can be carcinogenic so...

I've had mixed results at KFC. Sometimes I find it really good (like when I get a really meaty drumstick) but other times I want to hurl (just bones, skin and connective tissue battered and fried).

During my first trip to South Africa in the late 90s, I was being driven from Johannesburg to Pretoria for product certification testing. The plan was to stop for lunch and the person from the local office suggested one of his favorite locations. I was thinking this would be a nice local pub or a lunchroom offering exotic dishes. As it turned out, his favorite place was one of the dozens of KFCs I noticed on this trip. Sigh.....

I love KFC although I do not eat it as much as I would want too, it is so unhealthy. I like both the classic and crispy. I tried the grilled chicken that they now have in the US, which is good but not as good as the others. I also like the sides they sell here in the US, compared to just the fries that they would serve in Greece.

KFC was an occasional guilty pleasure for me growing up. When Mr. Harlot and I drove out to Seattle for the first time, we had an overnight stop in Bozeman, Montana, and being poor students, we went to KFC for dinner - and were confused and horrified. The chicken looked and tasted entirely different from what we were used to in Canada and the sides were also all different. It was so strange. I think we tried American KFC one more time in the Seattle area and found exactly the same thing and totally gave up on it. If we're going to have fried chicken here, we get it from a local grocery store (right ER757?   ).

A couple of times a year we go up to Vancouver to go shopping and then we almost always go to KFC for lunch. One piece of chicken, maybe two, and fries and gravy...if we're in the mall and really want to treat ourselves we'll get New York Fries instead of KFC fries.

And that takes care of our KFC cravings for another six months to a year.
But that was when I ruled the world

I don't like KFC much at all; though I do find the smell very, very alluring....it makes me hungry which inturn occasionally makes me go to Subway. I haven't eaten at KFC for ~1.5 years and before that ~5 years and have no intention of going back anytime soon. Every time I have eaten there I have found the chicken to be too greasy and the fries somewhat tasteless. The gravy is alright though.

Oh yes. I don't care for their chicken because it's too greasy but the biscuits are proper Southern biscuits. Outstanding.

Publix grocery stores sell decent fried chicken, better than KFC, but my favorite is Gus' Fried Chicken in Memphis.
