Nokia Lumia 800 - Uploading Photos?

Sat Oct 06, 2012 11:38 am

Hi All,

I've just taken delivery of a Nokia Lumia 800 and trying to get to grips with where everything is and how it works. I must say, it's far more complicated than I was expecting with basic task seeming to be more complicated than they need to be.

My question relates to attaching photos to messages on and uploading photos to this site. I used my previous phonos for years to email photos via Yahoo as attachments and submit them to this site (once processes while away from home). I've never had a problem doing this with any other phone. However, with the Lumia 800, it doesn't seem to allow you to to this. On the add attachment page or photo sumbission page here, there is a box with a browse button that when you press, nothing seems to happen. On all phones previously, you simply press browse, select the file from the memory card / drive and press upload in the same way you would do from a pc. But this doesn't seem to be the case on the Lumia 800. When you press browse, nothing happens, you don't get a box to select a file from the phone or anything.

Has anyone any ideas of how to get around this? It must surely be possible to attached photos to email and select files for uploading from what is billed as a state of the art Window phone? If not, it may be a case of the phone goes back and I'll go back to using my X6.

Thanks,

Darren

This might be of help if I understand your problem:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/ho...ictures/upload-pictures-to-the-web
Specifically

Quote:

To share a picture or video in a text message, email, or IM

On Start, tap Pictures.

Find a picture or video you want to share. (To share a picture from an online album, you'll need to save it to your phone first.)

Tap the More icon (· · ·) at the bottom of the screen (or tap and hold the picture), and then tap Share.

To send the item in a text message or IM, tap Messaging. To send it in email, tap the name of the email account you want to use.

A new email or message opens with the item attached.

Also do you use the SkyDrive option for storing your photos? I am not suggesting it in particular to solve your problem but it is a good way to back up your pics.

Thanks Tugg, it's not quite what I'm trying to do though. I'm simply trying to upload a photo file that's on my phone to this site using the photo upload page. It should be a simple case of opening Internet Explorer, going to the photo upload page, entering the aircraft details and selecting the photo from the memory card of the phone. But for some reason, it won't let you browse the files on the phone from within Internet Exlporer. You press browse, the box goes grey and nothing happens. It's so frustrating as any other phone, it's not a problem. It just seems the Windows Phone OS is riddled with software issues. You'd have thought a state of the art phone would allow you to do simple tasks like attach files to emails or upload to website wouldn't you, every other phone can!

I don't think an Android phone can do what you describe out of the box....

I've been uploading photos to this site using my X6 and other phones for over 2 years, so they can! It's a simple task, I'm not asking a lot from the phone.

That's just what I've done. After a lot of messing about, I've installed UC Browser 8 and that seems to achieve what Internet Explorer 9 fails to do. After asking around, it seems there is a software problem on the phone that makes some functions of IE9 on a Windows Phone not work. I can't believe Microsoft would release an operating system and software for the phone when there are so many problems with in. How can a third party browser do a basic task that the native software can't? It's beyond me!

All sorted now though.

When I do what you describe on my phone, it calls up a third-party app, because there's no native filemanager included in Android (or so I think).

Anyway, glad you got it to work.

I think you are overreacting quite a bit. WP was smooth from the beginning. Remember what Android was like, even 2 years after initial launch? And how limited iOS was and still in some ways is? You knew that WP was a young OS when you purchased the phone (at least if you have done a tiny bit of research before your purchase).

No doubt MS and Nokia are late to the game, but it is clear that they are working very hard round the clock, and I believe with WP8, the OS is finally mature. Can't wait to get a Lumia 920.
