Mini Wonderland, Now With An Airport?

Mon Oct 08, 2012 1:17 am

So I saw this video earlier, and am intrigued about this place. Now that they have an airport set open, I really want to go see it.

What about you guys?

I was never really interested in model-anything. But the amount of detail and accuracy at the airport (building, parking garages etc.) is incredible. The apron, tower, runways etc. look nothing like that in Hamburg but that's okay.

I especially liked the 2min17secs mark in the video.

The tower, or at least the upper part of it as displayed in the video, is faithful to the original.

It's REALLY well done. The aircraft even approach and climb out with the same sort of inertia and attitude that real airliners do. For example, they rotate and then further increase their pitch as they achieve positive climb.

Yes but when you look at the terminals from the front (as shown somewhere in the video), the tower isn't behind them but actually out of sight, very far to the left. But I admit I phrased that badly.

It is operational for quite some time now.

As everything else in Miniatur Wunderland, the airport is modeled as close as possible to the poriginal. Of course, mpost aircraft do not even fly at XFW, but that's nit-picking.

At least they have modeled my office block at the cargo centre and that is very real as it was in thze 70s and onwards.

If it wasn't for the Maritime Museum, Miniatur Wonderland would be the best tourist attraction in Hamburg. Now the 2 share the first place.

True, it is in the area near the Lufthansa Technik workshops and the general aviation area.
