Alcoa $400Million Overcharge Scandal In Bahrain

Wed Oct 10, 2012 8:18 am

In what is a staggering example of the moral, ethical and financial corruption in both US corporate policy and the authoritarian Gulf / Arab states, ALCOA has been found to have overcharged Aluminium Bahrain over $400 Million in an elaborate corruption scheme:

Examples like this expose US / Arab relations for what they really are - a sham. Why else would the United States protect the playboy dictators of the Arab monarchies?

The article requires a subscription, but this statement is completely irrelevant to the story. Alcoa is a privately owned company that has nothing to do with the US government. It's like blaming the British government for the BP oil spill.

Well, that is true. It is also true that it's private enterprise that drills out the oil in much of the Persian Gulf and surrounding nations. So why's the US Navy guarding that, if it's "just" private enterprise? The answer is, of course, national security interests.

Having a naval base in Bahrain is very much in the national security interests of the US, thus having a US company running one of the main industries of that country, and providing some nice kick backs to the locals, is all part of the game to ensure that doesn't change.
