Mamba wasn't happy (death look) so Mamba gets what he wants.

Brown was never the right hire for the Lakers.

I could see Mike D'Antoni or Larry Brown take over.

Kobe could be the first coach to be a player at the same time.

I wonder if Steve Nash is now saying "I left Phoenix for this?!"

He's a 2-time MVP and wants a championship ring. I was headed to LAX and guess who was sitting next to me: Mike D'Antoni.

Just sayin'...

As the saying goes, it is easier to fire one coach than a bunch of players.

No, he couldn't. Bill Russell already was, among others.

The Lakers are a private business and can do what they want. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass. Basketball is too long and too much in the States. And the thuggish hip hop mentality/lifestyle that goes with it. I tell anyone who listens the last place you want to be the weekend of the NBA All Star game is the city that is hosting the NBA All Star Game! When it was held in Vegas several years ago it was a thug-a-palooza with gang bangers making life miserable for those who just wanted to spend time in Vegas and do stuff that would stay in Vegas. I'd like to fire the entire NBA! Not that I care but I hope the Lakers hire someone who can do whatever they need done. Did the coach get fired for losing or for actually trying to discipline and babysit the players?

D'Antoni success in the West winning championships is known - which is the standard for the Lakers - and Larry Brown is a teacher best suited to young players just entering the league from college and have no clue of the NBA life and game.
I don't think either of those two will get the Lakers over the hump this year or next, the two year window.

Either they get Phil back or they make the decision now to just let the year play out and blow up the team to start next year with a new group of players.

They can't keep relying on Phil to fix things every time something goes wrong. I think the man has had enough and wants to stay retired in peace. They cannot continue to keep relying on Phil. Phil has a life too, ya know......

IMO, bring back an ex coach over and over is cheating.

The Lakers need to start to learn to figure out their crap themselves. Phil isn't gonna be around forever.

Problem with this is that LA has never been blown up since Show Time arrived, that has been a long long time ago.

Mike D'Antoni

Not the guy you want if you're after a championship. Defense matters, not running around getting on Sportscenter.

Phil's a good pick, but if you think Dwight Howard is a little bit coachable, I think you might have to put in a call to Jerry Sloan.

Phil was a good pick, but not now. I don't think he wants to come out if retirement a second time. I wouldn't count on Phil coming back.

I thought Brown was the wrong hire to replace Phil. He did ok last year the Lakers just were not that good. That being said this fire was too quick. I think they knew they had a better replacement in line. 1-4 with Nash hurt, Howard not at 100% and a brand new offense that actually was doing fairly well. Just a knee jerk reaction if you ask me. I know all about coaches that would not be able to take this super star temp am being a Heat Fan. Thankfully the Heat did not have this reaction after their 9-8 start and "bump-gate"

I also think the idea of going to the Princeton offense was just stupid. We will see if Phil wants to come back. If he does it seems like he wants to limit his travel on road games. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Apparently Jackson asked for an excessive compensation package, including an ownership stake in the Lakers. They passed, and have hired Mike D'Antoni to a 3 year deal with a club option on a 4th.

His start date is dependent on how quickly he recovers from his knee replacement surgery.

Yea saw that this morning. Interesting hire. Not reallys sure if this is the guy for the job either though. He is a run and gun type of offense guy and this is not a young team. He is also not known for his defense and it is hard to find championship teams that can't get it done well on both ends of the floor. That being said Kobe and Nash will certainly be happy with the hire as they both know him well and like him.

Will be an interesting season in L.A.

"Phil would come back only to win and skipping games doesn't lead to winning," the source said.

ESPN just reported that they didn't want Phil. After the Lakers beat the Kings, they (Dr. Buss, Jim Buss, and GM Mitch Kupchak) said they were going in a different direction and wanted D'Antoni.

One problem...... I am NOT a Lakers fan. When Amare, Nash, Raja Bell and D'Antoni was in PHX, I heavily rooted for these guys! PHX was awesome!!! But now this is L.A.....it makes it hard for me to root for these guys because...well.... its the Lakers.
