Well, for those who follow NCAA football, Washington State University hired Mike Leach to replace fired Head Coach Paul Wulff during the last off season. As a UW Huskies fan, I have to say this was a very, very bad hire. To me, Mike Leach is....well....a leach. He is the Bobby Knight of football, abusing players, humiliating players and the like. Leach got fired from Texas Tech for the exact same behavior that is is allegedly displaying now at Washington State.
Since Coach Leach has taken over the WSU program, they have lost 18+ (scholarship and regulars) players because of Leach and his staff (It appears) and many more might or will be bolting to other schools or just quit.
Marquess Wilson has left the team. He was one of the best receivers that WSU has (or had) this year. Wilson has written a letter to Cougar fans on his displeasure of the coaching staff and where the program was headed. The Athletic Director, Bill Moos, is obviously supportive of both Wilson and Leach.....but it seems like he sides Leach more than Wilson.
Now, I am not entirely sure of what my thoughts are. Is Wilson a crybaby here? Is Leach abusing his power? Is his staff crossing the line (shoving players into lockers at an away game during halftime)? Is Moos in denial?
I don't know. But if Leach is still displaying this behavior that he exhibited at Texas Tech while at WSU, then he should be fired. No student athlete should tolerate any abuse by coaches. Shoving players into lockers and lecturing them harshly is crossing the line. Intimidation is not the way to win games. This is not prison.
As a huge Washington Husky fan, WSU's rival school, I feel bad for the Cougars. They don't deserve this, especially at 2-8, they deserve BETTER. Leach probably should have NOT been hired after what happened at Texas Tech.
WSU President Floyd has requested an independent probe in the football program, as well as requested the Pac-12 to get involved. As much as I hate the NCAA, I hope they get involved as well. This crap has got to stop. I'll tell you now, I don't like Leach.
Here are some articles about the situation......
Players say they have no problems with Leach, it seems:
Pac-12 agrees to help investigate.
So, what do you guys think? Is this being overblown? Should Leach be let go?
Edit: WSU's record. They have two games left in the season (At ASU then the Apple Cup vs. UW at home.)
