Do You Have Any Famous Relatives?

Tue Dec 25, 2012 5:16 am

Hi!

This is kinda a stupid question sorry but was wondering if anyone on here has a famous relative at all. They don't have to be famous like George Clooney or Barack Obama just somewhat famous is fine.

Personally I don't really have any. I have an uncle who was like a surgeon but they don't really become famous except among medical professionals! I also have a cousin who has a 25 million dollar house and nowone knows what he does for a living but that is hopefully not infamous!

Many thanks.

Michael Tucker (married to Jill Eikenberry who is a foot taller) from La Law fame. He's a third cousin.

Hi!

Many thanks. That is cool. I used to watch LA Law a lot. It was a cool show. Unfortunately it shows my age. Recently I met soneone in their 20s who works in law and I started asking them about LA Law and stuff and they didn't know what I was talking about!

Many thanks!

My uncle in the San Francisco area is doing well in tech circles as an innovative designer of office space. His architectural firm made it big awhile back with a big contract for a good chunk of the interior design work for the Pixar headquarters. That project alone set the rest of his career on track.

His firm recently did this lovely building for a venture capital firm:

George who ? (boy, your idea of "who's famous" in the U.S. is really "strange" ! )

The closest I've come to any "famous relatives" is when I was in the Navy from Dec.'51 to Dec.'55; One of my friends and I met a couple of nice girls in the Boston Commons, ( a big park in downtown Boston, Mass. ) The girl I was "with" lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. and invited me to come to NYC on a week end, and stay with her and her family. I started going to NYC every few weeks, and on one trip down, she asked if I would like to go to the Metropolitan Opera and see "Carmen". ( I guess I had mentioned that I was fond of Opera, and that "Carmen" was one of my favorites ) Anyway, I said, "sure, I'd LOVE to go to the Met, but I'm just a "poor sailor", and going to the Met is VERY expensive!"

So she says, "oh, that's not a problem.......my aunt is IN the opera, and she'll give me free tickets"; well, that sounds just great, but are you sure that someone in the opera chorus can even GET free tickets ? To which she says, "oh, she's not in the chorus, she's singing the title roll, and her name is Rise' Stevens ! ( For anyone unfamiliar with Grand Opera in the 1950's, Rise' Stevens was THE leading soprano in the world at the time, and was VERY FAMOUS for her portrayal of "Carmen"! )

So we went to Manhattan Saturday evening,(from her home in Brooklyn), saw the opera, THEN were invited to "attend" a reception with a "few friends" in the "Star's" dressing room, ( the "few friends" turned out to be about half of the millionaires in NYC at he time,) and at that point, I had VERY meager experience "mingling" with millionaires; after all the "hoopla" over the opera was over with, Miss Stevens INSISTED that we "stay over" at "her place", and have brunch the next morning with a few more "friends"; "her place" turned out to be a HUGE suite at the Waldorf-Astoria !

So if you think all of these "rockers" "live well", check out how famous opera divas "live" !

Hi!

Many thanks for the replies. Is interesting to hear and stuff. Those Pixar headquaters look really nice. It's amazing what selling lots of DVD's can buy I guess!

Many thanks!

How about infamous?

Jack Dragna.

Dragna was the "Don Of LA" for a couple of decades. He is related to another side of our family in which only my grandfather came across him,non-business(lol), and Dragna does come up in discussion from time to time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Dragna

I will call it rumors. This article calls his death a heart attack,,,,,

BTW-I put a contract out on Warren Beatty(lol) for casting Dragna's character so submissively to Siegal(Beatty) in "Bugsy".Not true.

Dragna's weakness was that he did not build up a network but was on the Commission as a peace gesture.

My half-sister (same dad) was step-cousins with Stone Temple Pilots front man, Scott Weiland, through her mother's side. They were pretty close through their teenage years and they still keep in touch. Whenever the band tours she tries to go and meet up with him back stage. I got to come along and meet him a few years ago.

My great uncle was on the 1932 New York Yankees World Series Team. Legend has it Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig had lunch at my Grandma's house one time while passing through town. Though part of me believes it is a fantasy. My uncle is a well known sales trainer/speaker named Brian Sullivan. Apparently he's got a pretty good following.

You all remember Everybody Loves Raymond? You remember Robert, played by Brad Garrett? Yeah, he's my wife's 2nd cousin; my father-in-law's first cousin. He is the son of my wife's grandmother's brother... I've already met him a few times. Most recently, I met him last year at a stand-up show in Atlantic City, and he brought his girlfriend. He hugged me and said, "welcome to the mishbucha (family)."

Not really.

My grandfather "invented" (not really an invention, per se, but devised the idea) the practice of sounding a chime precisely on the hour on radio. That was on WOR in New York. He also made star and sun charts used by Admiral Byrd in his Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. Naval architect by profession.

I'd say on a world wide scale George Clooney has far and away eclipsed the fame of your singer lady (who I had never heard of until I read what you wrote).

Going back a fair way my most famous relative was John III Comyn, Lord of Badenoch otherwise know as the Red Comyn, he was the chap Robert the Bruce stabbed to death in Greyfriars Church in Dumfries.

I have a 2nd cousin we would consider famous here on A.net....

He was a JFK based 707 pilot for Pan Am in the 60s and 70s, went to the 747 in the mid 70s. He also worked on the L15 in the 80s doing South American runs.

I can honestly say I have no famous family OR friends. The most famous person I've ever met was probably Jimmy Carter on an elementary or middle school trip when I was young, and all I did was shake his hand (I think.) Pretty lame
Ironically I have never flown a Delta MD-90 :)

Great Uncle on Dad's Side--Neil Armstrong (by Marriage)

Great Uncle 2 on Dad's side--George "Barney" Ross..1st Officer on the PT109 Boat, was credited for Saving JFK before he was President. Not famous but very well known among military folks and the white house.

President Hoover is a Cousin on my Mom's Side of the Family

Not sure if it's 100% true, but supposedly Robert Stack, of "The Untouchables" and "Unsolved Mysteries" was a distant cousin of my great grandfather on my dad's side. Great grandfather's last name was Shestack, and he had always been told that all the stacks are related. I haven't had the time or the inclination to do the extensive research needed to validate this.
