RIP to a fine general.
A tough call, the first Gulf War, a leap into the unknown, first large scale US military action since Vietnam - with all the uncertainly and worry that came with that.
A large and in places fragile coalition to hold together.
'Stormin Norman' looked like a sometimes unflattering caricature of a US General, appearances were very deceptive though. He had the political and diplomatic smarts to match his obvious military ones.
He could also handle the press well too.
Wasn't afraid to change his views as well, he was not a fan of Special Forces at first, prior to the fighting, after the Gulf conflict he was a welcome guest at both Hereford Barracks here and no doubt, the similar SF
establishments in the US too.
