Anyone Been To Madagascar?

Mon Jan 28, 2013 1:25 pm

I'm thinking of doing a two week trip to Madagascar this summer (probably August or September). Has anyone here been to Madagascar in the last couple of years and have any feelings about it? I'm primarily interested in the unique ecosystems, national parks and forests, and maybe some beach time at the end. I've never met anyone who has been to Madagascar so I'd love to hear what it's like!

That singing lemur they have as king seems pretty fun, but be careful to avoid the dreaded foosa.

Keep in mind our summer is their winter. It probably won't be cold per se, but it will be winter in August.

Average temps in Antananarivo:

August high - 20C/68F
August low - 11C/52F

September high - 23C/73F
September low - 12C/54F

I have been there in that time of the year and it was quite nice if I remember correctly. That being said, it was a good 10 years ago.

That time of year is supposed to be the dry season, meaning cooler and drier, but still relatively mild during the day especially in the lower parts.

Hi!

I'll add what little I can. I have never been to Madagascar but I used to have a friend who went there for I think 6 months or something to stidy lemurs or something? He seemed to like it a lot, although he was mostly in the jungle with researchers I think. I remember him saying it was extremely dark at night there! He seemed to like the town too and played me a tape once of some Madagascan music which was quite cool. it was maybe 8 years or more ago though sorry,

Hope it might help and have anice trip if you go!

P,.
