Just Got 18.8% Bonus!

Tue Jan 29, 2013 5:11 pm

I'm just lamenting the fact that I'm so excited. Our company just announced it's 2012 results and we were just awarded with an 18.8% bonus payable in 2 1/2 weeks.. OMG.. I'm so Excited! I'm on cloud 9 right now

Trips so far this year that are booked:

1. Day Trip to Houston (flying)
2. London and Paris in May
3. Cabo San Lucas in July
4. Florence and Rome, Italy in November

Should be fun

What wasn't fun was paying $5,700 in property tax on Friday :/

That's impressive. Is that for the entire year or just half? Of course prop tax is the primary way for Texas to raise revenue isn't it?

That was my entire 2012 home tax burden.

Yea, the obama tax will eat up some.. between the lady and I, the 2% increase to the social security tax costs us a few hundred a month.. I hate taxes, but Oh well, that was going to come back no matter what at some point.

Anyway, thanks Superfly, Very excited today.

In addition, I'll find out on Friday what % increase I get as a merit based increase in pay.

I'll bring the positive energy in this thread down a bit for everybody. My "raise" this year was 1.2% (not enough to cover Cost of Living, let alone the Obama tax).

I'm not eligible for a bonus at my employee level.

I'm, therefore, making less per paycheck than I was last year! Joy of joys!

Congrats on the bonus - it has to feel good.

It's also a nice indicator for others in the workplace to see some business doing very well.

I've always thought that high property taxes was the price Texans pay for having no state income taxes. The states aare going to get their money one way or another.

I agree with Ken777 on that topic.. Yes, our property taxes are higher than most of the nation to make up for the lack of state income tax. That is a fact.

Our business has always done really well. USAA is one of the best run companies and most well respected out there. Can't speak for other companies, but we treat our member right and in return, we make a lot of money.

I can hardly work today I'm so happy.. I realize how blessed and fortunate I am to be given such a bonus. Without getting political, it does go to show you that a great income and bonuses can be given for working hard and a union is not necessary to facilitate this... there are a lot of great private companies that are not "evil".

... two threads on your well-being in one week, and also complaining on paying $5,200 in property taxes? I think you can afford it.

Congrats... but... seems a little excessive to keep promoting your net value so much. Just my 2 cents. Don't mind me.

No dude, you already told us what the social security tax increase costs you.....(well, you and the missus, but still!), and also what trips you have booked! Now, your wife could of course earn a fat bundle, but reading between the lines I would guess you do ok too.

I don't do badly, but boni are simply not a feature of my employment, and at the moment below-inflation payrises are. Still, I am still happy for you - and I hope you enjoy your extra kablingy.

:D that's sweet. I'm about to pay off the car ($15k remaining) and want to try to do it on a credit card. I need to find a new card that offers high points for the first 6 months or something. Heh.

.

How much commission do you earn when you underwrite your limit of $500k? (Now here's the fun game: find me on LinkedIn based on your recent profile views. You have one guess.)

In same boat as RussianJet. Below inflation pay rises and no bonus so actual pay cut per year.

But congrats on your and spend it wisely

"Non-profit" seems to confuse a lot of people, It just means that all the money gets "reinvested" back into the company. There are no monies that are paid to shares holders or otherwise go outside the company, etc. So you expense anything extra within the company, in the form of raises, bonuses, lower prices, reinvesting in new technology.

Head of non-profits are some if the best paid execs out there (also because they can't be given shares or other forms of non-cash bonuses).

Haha, well it reminds me of the Federal Reserve. Also a quasi "private" organization. They actually create money. Then they deduct whatever expenses they have. Suffice it to say, they don't worry about buying office supplies or things like that.

As a customer, I like USAA very much.

I used to feel the same way until I saw my auto insurance bill three years ago. With no tickets or accidents by any of the members in my household my rates were climbing through the roof. After a call to AAA and finding out I could get the same coverage for $1700.00 less a year on four cars than USAA, I had to say goodbye. Now don't get me wrong, I was with USAA for 25 years and they USED to be a great company, but ever since they opened up their insurance to anyone whose even looked at a military uniform, it just seems they are more concerned with profits then offering lower rates. This past Sept. my mother had to switch out after 35 years which saved her $600 a year. As far as homeowners goes, USAA could never get my business as their rates were always two to three times higher then what I could get locally for the same coverages. More and more i'm hearing about long term customers turning away from USAA because of the higher premiums and the lower quality of their customer service. I still have a couple of credit cards with USAA bank only because if I close them out it will lower my credit score from the 850 score that I've maintained for years.

dtw9,

You have brought up some good points. I'll be the first to admit we are not always the cheapest. With that said, no company is always the cheapest for everyone on everything.

Customer Service: While we are still top notch, you do have a point. In the last few years we have grown so much (added so many employees), that I'm sure now and again our service has not met the standards that our Members are used to. We are always trying to improve that, but it does get hard when you are growing at the clip we are. It's always a balancing act and one we are always trying to improve on.

My manager stresses at least weekly, to do what's best for the Members and treat them as our number one priority. Of course, we make up one small part of the company as a whole.

USAA is the prototype fo proving that a very large enterprise can be responsive and even, at times, compassionate, with its customers. I guess I should shop my insurance rates, but it would be like going out into the cold harsh world. Not comforting.
