Prague Airport-Downtown Car Transfer

Mon Feb 18, 2013 5:12 pm

Heading to Prague next week and heard many bad tings about cabs, so want to book a car service from PRG to my downtown hotel.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

I've found Prague Aiport Shuttle http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.com/

They have good online reviews and seem to be what I'm looking for but I welcome any tips.

Take public transport! It's easy and cheap.

Or try AAA taxi. They've been honest for everyone I know who has used them.

I second what n229nw said. AAA taxi is solid and I never had any problems with them and they're widely recommended by just about every travel source as the go-to taxi company in Prague. If you're insistent on using a shuttle/car service, check out Cedaz - http://www.cedaz.cz/public-shuttle-b...from-airport-to-prague-centre.php. I've used them and they're also a solid service.

Thanks, AAA is more expensive then private car. ALso, just a heads up Cedaz apparently has been out of business since January 2011 (according to their website).

Agree. I would only take a taxi if I had a lot of luggage. I've been to PRG several times and have never once taken a taxi anywhere. The #119 bus from the airport runs every 10 minutes or so. Take that to the end of the line (about 20 minutes) then take the metro from there (very frequent, about every 5 minutes). You'll be in the city center in another 15 minutes or so, depending where you are staying.

Fare is only CZK32 (about $1.70) good for 90 minutes anwhere in PRG, including to/from the airport, or 24 hours unlimited travel for CZK110 (about $5.80). There's also a 72 hour ticket for CZK310 (about $16.40) that's a little cheaper than 3 one-day tickets.

Don't remember the name of the service, but when I went to Prague for business once my assistant messed up (had only requested a simple car pick-up) so I ended up being picked up by a guy in a new Mercedes S-Class! I took the opportunity to mess around with the buttons in the back seat and ended up almost burning my bottom (and the family jewels) on the seat-warmer while trying to turn on the non-existent massage function (it didn't help that it was August and really warm outside).

Now for actual recommendations - when I did go there for fun once (no expense account...) public transportation seemed to work fairly well, and was cheap, too.
Read this very carefully, I shall write this only once!

Done that both times I've been to Prague. Quite easy to figure out and dirt cheap. Looked decently safe in comparison to some other cities too. The metro station served by the #119 bus is Dejvická(http://www.czech-transport.com/index.php?id=340).

Perhaps not ideal with heaps of bags though.

I think what they mean is they no longer provide direct service to hotels or requested addresses in Prague or the Czech Republic and they will only shuttle you from the airport to the city center and vice versa. When you click on http://cedaz.cz/public-shuttle-bus-from-airport-to-prague-centre.php there's a timetable that's current as of 2013. They also note that

Our company has not been providing transport to hotels or any place in Prague and the Czech Republic since January 1st, 2011.

Public shuttle bus from airport to the centre of Prague (V Celnici Street) or back is operated without changes.

I'll agree it's confusing but I also think it's clear they're still in business, just without service that's as expansive as it used to be (for instance they took me from PRG to the penzion I was staying at in Vinohrady)

Airport Express going to Central Station, if this is suitable.
Unless the fare has gone up recently, the website mentions 50 CZK payable to the bus driver
More expensive than bus 119 & subsequent use of Metro from Dejvicka but more convenient if luggage to haul.

BTW, using bus 119 there is an extra fee for luggage unless one is using a day ticket.
