A Tunisian TV which is expecting financial difficulties in the near future due to the kind of embargo exercised by the government to prevent it from announcers and ads revenues had the idea to sell parsley in front of its HQ in downtown Tunis to collect money ! The campaign went this morning and it was as successful as they had to bring extra quantity to put it on sale. A thousand of bunches were sold in the first hour or so at the given price of 20 dinars (10 euro) ! A price which is of course inflated (approx. 100x the real market price) but Tunisians wanted to show involvement in freedom of speech and determination not to let the government decide on what they want to be heard and known and what they don't or wouldn't or shouldn't. The TV in question is known for its constant criticism to the government and to the "ruling" party, thing that the new dictators do not like. There was a beautiful line up of men and women from different ages and classes waiting to donate 20 dinars ( the daily pay of most of Tunisians) in exchange of a bunch of parsley that could have bought it a 1/100 rate from the nearest market. That looked like odd but was great !
Of course there is a story behind the choice of parsley and not any other fruit or vegetable. One of the new TVs pro government is said to be financed by the father (now minister) of the founder who was during president Ben Ali imprisoned then denied rights to work... thing that led him to sell parsley in flea markets ! Of course this is fake because everybody knows that it is an investment of the now "ruling" party !
