UK Weather This Year

Fri Mar 15, 2013 6:09 am

This year so far has seen wet weather, snowy weather and cloudy weather with still no sign of sunshine in sight. if it is sunny at all its usually for a day or two during the week which is rubbish as im working.

Does everyone in the UK agree with me? I havent had a decent sunny day at Heathrow or Gatwick yet this year and im hoping the weather improves soon.

Feel like saying to people emmigrating here, why leave your lovely sunshine all day long paradise? I'd rather be poor and have total sunshine rather than wealthy and in wet and dull weather all the time.

Hope we get a sunny weekend soon its quite depressing at the moment, come on 2013 shine a bit its been 3 months!

This winter was particularly dark, at least here in Germany: Overly Overcast: Germany Weathers Darkest Winter in 43 Years. It's no wonder you might be feeling worse for it.

Any decent weather/clear days we've had up north (Liverpool-ish) has been bitterly cold so it's just as bad. It's a bloody nightmare - I'm cold at the best of times and it makes it worse that the general temperature is low.

I've not commuted by bike since October because of the weather being so bad (as well as generally needing to use the car). I don't have waterproof stuff and the kit I do wear would be wet if I rode in in the rain by the time I went home as I have no where to dry it.

In other words: it's winter.

Its certainly been wetter than usual. Here in Ireland and the UK the amount of flood warnings has been huge. Ive noticed floods in areas that never flooded before.

Love it, British folks discussing the weather whenever possible and via whatever means! Lol

Anyway, is it any different to the usual? Edinburgh has been it's usual cold and windy (but beautiful) self!!

Fingers crossed for a good summer though

By the way, I don't mean everyone on this thread is British - all I mean is that it was started by someone from the UK - and we all know how much the Brits love to talk about the weather :-P

The UK has the best weather in the world, IMHO. Along with Ireland and Iceland I guess. I'd rather be poor in Scottish weather than rich in someplace hot and sunny where I never would want to go outside and lived in an air conditioned bubble...

But, to each his or her own...

Now, I didn't say that, did I?

You know the first time I was in Edinburgh was in February, and it was Sunny the entire week. But I soon spent a lot more time there and had some proper Scottish weather...

This winter feels like it will never end, it's been grim since the end of September! There's been a lack of daffodils and blossoms around where I live, usually they start appearing in late February but there's been nothing to indicate spring is on the way apart from the slightly brighter evenings.

London is usually quite lucky, it tends to get the best of the weather and this time last year there was a “barbecue weekend” when temperatures hit 22C but it was followed by a complete washout of a summer for the whole country, the only good weather was during the Olympics.

Maybe this proper winter might mean we're going to get a good summer? Wishful thinking.

No, you did not - I apologise!

However, I am glad that you got to spend time in the beautiful city of Edinburgh and also had the chance to see it on a sunny day! I am also pleased you experienced the rain and wind

No thank you, I would much rather have my sunny weather any day over rainy and overcast weather. The past three days, in L.A we have had temperatures in the high 80s. Lovely weather

Now that is something I've noticed. Last 'Spring' our daffodils were out by the end of December, this year they are just struggling into bloom now.

So does it mean that Winter has returned to its normal self and that extremely sunny mild days in February and March were very unusual? Last year was "BBQ weather" apparently, now it might be a white Easter. Its hard not to get angry with the Weather but i do realise theres nothing i can do about it.

I guess i can sort out photos on the computer and free up space for sunnier times and give my camera a rest from taking loads of photos of planes each weekend.

As i said about sunny days in the week, im working which means no spotting, i live on the coast so by the time i reach an airport after 3pm its dark.

Yes... beach weather in winter is not normal for the UK. We had a number of very early springs in the past couple of years, so now we get a reasonably normal winter it stands out. Snow until late April and frosts until May are not exactly uncommon.

Bizarrely, we've had lots of dry sunny weather here in Manchester over the last few weeks!

Yeah you could be right, the jetstream is unusually far south at the moment i hope it comes back soon, getting sick and tired of endless mornings waking up to cloudy weather to be honest, i know ranting here wont bring sunshine back any quicker but they say dont bottle things up.

The weather at the moment is atrocious and very detrimental to productivity. Just vulgar.

Seemingly this March is breaking a lot of records:

http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2...ldest-march-in-england-since-1892/

While we're not getting it quite as bad as the UK, the temperature is zero outside and I'm looking out my window at birds fighting over food I've left out in the snow. Seems our Siberian Spring is going to drag on a while:

Im not too sure about bring it on for Global Warming, it was quite sad and frightening to see superstorms like Sandy and Katrina wrecking thousands of peoples lives, losing our jetstream would make it worse i think as the Thames would freeze over or worse.

Hopefully our Spring wil return, apparently its forecast to stay the same until at least 10th April. I will look forward to much warmer weather, the Sun made a nice appearance for an hour today which felt so much nicer.
