Boris Berezovsky Dead

Sat Mar 23, 2013 9:38 pm

The oligarch who fell out of of favour in Moscow and subsequently was afforded shelter in the UK has died in in the UK.

So far there is no confirmation of how he met his end. Will be interesting to see what develops, as there is every chance someone did him in.

It isn't great to say bad things about people that have passed on, but it must suck when a known person dies, and there are only a handful of people that experience any true sadness from the passing.
All I can say is my condolences to his family, and may God have mercy on his evil soul.

Well said. I do not like to speak ill of the dead, but it's beyond me why the UK keeps giving refuge to criminals such as Berezovsky.

If the dead have done ill, then why not speak it? In the end, when I die, my immortality will remain in the deeds I have done in life. The children whose lives I have saved will go on to have children of their own, who will have children after them. All of them will be there, in some small part, because of my work. They will not remember me or ever even learn my name, but my good deeds will live on as long as humanity exists.

And if you did bad, your horrible deeds will similarly live on for eternity. Let it be known far and wide. Death does not absolve one of sin.

I support you're right of course Doc, there's nothing wrong with talking about the things he did. I'm just waiting to find out whether in fact he did get his comeuppance or actually died of natural causes.

Currently his house has been cordoned off and police specialists in chemical, biological and nuclear materials are searching the area.

I despise the actions Mr Berezovsky whilst he was in Russia, he did a lot to rip-off the Russian People and his puppet-mastering put his own interests first. And I very much dislike Oligarchism. I do however like much of what he did in exile, though I suspect it was for the wrong reasons.

If nothing else, he had great taste in aircraft:

And this despite his extensive security team. Supposedly there was another attempt in 2007.

I bet people such as Alex Goldfarb and Akhmed Zakayev are rather worried right now (to put it mildly). The grand irony being that it was Mr Berezovsky who facilitated Putin's rise to power in the first place - the dangers of being a puppet-master I guess.

That's certainly true. I've been around GA a lot, and that's definitely the aircraft I would have if the money was in my pocket.

His presence in front of a judge in France had been required for some time apparently, I wonder why the British government didn't treat him like Julian Assange ?

I don't know about the French situation, but the UK government sure likes to piss off the Russians when it comes to their wanted criminals/terrorists.

He was featured in a fascinating BBC documentary series called Russian Godfathers a year or two ago:

You can see the inside of the aircraft from about 23:00 onwards.

Well, Russia hasn't been particularly enthusiastic in handing over Andrey Lugovoy, have they.

Sure, but we'd already taken in plenty of theirs before that point. One of the main stated reasons for not handing over Lugovoi was the fact that we'd never hand over the likes of Akhmed Zakaev. Without wishing to sound petty, we in the UK definitely had the march on them in that particular game.

That and also in our Constitution it clearly states that we do not hand over our nationals (citizens) to foreign governments. What Scotland Yard could have done and was actually ASKED to do by our Prosecution Office was to try him in Russian court. But they didn't even bother handing over any evidence and made a political stink about it. And trust me, with such a noteworthy case it would not have been swept under the rug and with all the publicity would have been a fair trial.
The UK simply did not want to do that or they had no evidence against Lugovoi, therefore making a stink and blaming us is alot easier than doing some police work.

Anyway, it now looks like his death (hanging) was of his own doing.

And the UK doesn't hand over those who are likely to be tortured (Akhmed Zakayev) or asylum seekers who are likely to have a politically motivated trial (Berezovsky).
