Oops! €650,000 worth of damage!

I guess this mechanic has got some explaining to do.....an other article stated he was speeding!

Kinda looks like one of my '72 Panteras I flipped on Southfiield Road up in Dearborn, MI years ago (except my windshield header was down a lot closer to the cowl). Didn't get a scratch on me. Insurance totaled the vehicle and damn if I didn't see it restored years after that shunt at the Woodward Cruise. Point is, a healthy checkbook can fix anything I guess. 650,000 punds is a lot of beer money.

But, out of curiousity I searched the value of this car after linking the article and was amazed that the pricing goes from 2 million to 4.62 million dollars US here in the states. I had no idea. When I was going to Art Center in L.A., my landlady was dating a jerk who had one. He treated it like a beater. It had not one body panel that didn't need some kind of repair. regards...jack

Oh god no...

Any mechanic worth his salt who did this would be considering whether to eat a bullet. What was he thinking????

Not much, probably – and he likely didn't remember that there is a huge gap between the road handling of a modern performance car at higher speeds and such an old timer.

Quite a shame.

I know what he's thinking now: "How am I going to make a living?"

Is that an after-market airbag in the drivers side window? Assuming the original didn't have one. Or maybe that's not an airbag? Just looks like one...

A car of that value, especially considering the condition of the classic car market as a whole, will surely be repaired one way or another.

Fair play to him. If it had been mine, I would have died of a heart attack...

My words exactly when I saw the picture. For any car lover, a Gullwing in that state is a horrible view.

Perhaps that's what the mechanic went out to test...

Or the mechanic would have died of suffocation after his testicles were stuffed down his throat . . .

I guess he had big balls while he was speeding!
That must have hurt!

I wonder if somebody has more info on this, did the guy get sacked; or is he working on the restoration project himself.....without any wages? Curious! Surely, him or his company were not insured for things like this!?

Mr Beans F1 cost nearly 1 million pounds to fix. I'm sure this SL will be resurrected, I guess the mechanic didn't read the book where it said the 300 SL has truly evil handling due to its decidedly dodgy swing arm rear suspension.

The higher price would be for one of the aluminium bodied coupés.
