Post A Picture Of Your Car And...

Tue Apr 09, 2013 8:54 pm

Also, what car feature do you seldom use by choice?

For me, it's the cruise control. My previous car had 50,000 miles in three years and probably less than 30 miles were in cruise control. I had plenty of highway miles having driven a handful Las Vegas to Salt Lake City and over a dozen Las Vegas to San Diego round trips. I just feel more comfortable with my foot on the accelerator and also like to slightly vary my speed on the highway to avoid wolf packs (group of cars).

Here's my new car...

Ain't I a stinker?

Can't see a whole lot of that.

Don't have a pic to hand of my Mustang but the feature I never use is the small luminous tag which dangles in the trunk and will let you out if you get trapped in there. Strangely I've never needed it.

I actually had to use it on a rental car last year, somehow the trunk release cable got caught on a luggage and I couldn't open the trunk. I had to fold down the rear seatback, remove my luggage and pull the emergency release tag to open the trunk.

Features I use the least? Probably the AM/FM radio and the fog lights.

2000 Subaru Legacy L Wagon with 5-speed manual. I'm pretty sure it's a base model with no options, so there's not a lot to not use. Probably the little storage compartment under the dash by your left knee is what I use least, or the coin holder. I don't like having money out in plain view in my car, even if it is just a couple bucks worth of quarters.

True, that's why I don't need a fast car. I usually leave early, therefore I'm in no rush to get to places. I'm happy with my little 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, 176 hp @ 6000 rpm, 172 lb.-ft. @ 4100 rpm engine.

I use my turn signal when I cut off other drivers. I'm still gracious in my aggressive driving techniques.
The horn comes in handy but my CB radio with external P.A. speaker works best against those pesky, self-righteous 'green' bicyclist.

Not the exact car but looks the same besides for the front plate. A 2002 G500
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Mercedes-Benz_G500.jpg

Two features I almost never use, the defrosters (living in Miami) and the most impractical feature in the truck the three separate locking differentials. Have used them on a handful of occasions.
I rarely use the outdated Nav system now too, I know all of Miami and my phone GPS is better anyway. Oh and the low range option for the 4 wheel drive. I guess driving a mountain goat of a truck there are plenty of impractical things rarely used. Sure is fun to drive though

I also dont use cruise control. Speed limit changes every few kms and traffic is mostly dense, so it doesnt make much sense for me. So far I only used it in Holland, a country with harsh limits and even harsher police.

Most used option whilst driving is the cruise on truck 2 and 300C (I wish I had it on truck 1, but that's mainly for off-road use). Using the cruise allows Officer KaiGywer to focus his radar on OTHER vehicles   Regards...jack

Anyway, here's (all of) my car:

As for my least used feature? My car has no ashtray or lighter, but where the lighter used to be is now a simply a power outlet for in-car chargers. Since I don't even have an in-car charger for my phone, I don't recall using that at all. Maybe I have in the past with my old phone.

My second least used feature is the radio. Strange as it may seem, I like listening to the noise that the 4.0 litre in-line six engine makes

Airbags (both)

Automatic headlight on/off setting (CV)

Cigarette Lighter (CV)

Power Port (Mustang)

'Line In' port (Mustang); I'm still getting used to CDs never mind MP3 players

Convertible boot/cover (Mustang); I don't have the top down long enough to warrant using it.

And yet, you absolutely should. In a car like the ST, engine temperature is somewhere between 180 - 210 degrees Farhenheit. But the oil won't be at its optimum temperature (212F) for at least another 15-20 minutes after your thermostat claims you're at operating temperature. Using the block heater will help everything get to a nice temperature more quickly and more consistently. I wish my car had a block heater!

Here's my baby, of which I am so, so proud! I spent years and years fawning over this car and being able to afford it was a huge point of pride for me. Few people recognize it for what it is, and I love that. I love when people say, "Oh, you drive a Mazda3?" I smile, say, "Sort of" and leave it at that.

As for the feature I seldom use, it's got to be my windows. They're always up unless I'm at a drive-through or something. I just prefer to have music on without the wind noise to distract me.

2 weeks old and sitting in the office garage, where she unfortunately has spent the vast majority of those 2 weeks.

A vast departure from my previous 7 series, but I am loving no longer being the guy with the most accommodating car for lunch trips - the back seats in this car are merely suggestions. Now if only the 1200 mile break-in period would be over!

I just don't have a convenient way to plug it in right now... if I did I'd use it all the time. It takes a good half hour on the highway to get up to temperature.

Not a bad little car... good power when you need it, yet I got 35 mpg (US) the other day over 260 miles. To get that though you have to drive like an

My new car.

The one feature I don't use much is the tape deck.   (no joke)

I blurred them at first and then someone pointed out that hundreds of people see my car with its license plate on it every day when I'm driving. What could possibly happen?

It's a MazdaSpeed 3, right? What year?

Exactly right. It's a 2012 (there was no white in the USA for this generation until 2012 when it replaced Celestial Blue Mica).

I think this new 6-series is just gorgeous. I hated the old one and this completely redeems BMW. As for the break-in period, my "1000-mile" break-in lasted about 3.6 miles. I haven't had any problems, and some people will even tell you it's better to drive the car hard right from the beginning so the engine seals up and settles into your regular driving.

Haha I drove to Washington D.C. (all highway) and barely managed 25MPG on a full tank. But I didn't buy this car for the fuel economy, so whatever. Blistering performance was my priority!

25 mpg highway on a Mazda 3?????  Wow!

Either there's something's wrong with your car or you were driving very fast.

A Mustang 5.0 can do about that. Heck, I got 24-25 mpg on an all-highway run on my old '89 Caprice.

Mazdaspeed3. Very, very, very different car. The regular Mazda3 gets 40MPG (with the SkyActiv). Mine has 265HP, 280ft-lb of torque from a 2.3L turbocharged 4-cylinder with direct injection. I get 16MPG city.

I hear ya... I'm averaging 22. Haven't run an MS3 yet, but it should be close... not that I encourage or participate in that sort of behaviour.
