The List Thread

Fri May 03, 2013 6:33 pm

TGIF!

List something that may be of interest, things you have and/or places you've been to. It doesn't have to be aviation related.

It's been almost 40 years since my first airplane ride. I've flown on 21 airlines (some defunct and/or merged), 16 types of airplanes and flown into or out of 37 airports.

American, Air Asia, America West, ATA, Cebu Pacific, Continental, Delta, Eastern, Frontier, Hawaiian, Jet America, Northwest, Philippine, PSA, Southwest, United, United Express, USAir, Western, Western Pacific, Westjet

727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, A300, A320, A330, A340, ATR, CRJ, DC-8, DC-9/MD-80, DC-10, L1011

ANC, BKK, BUR, BWI, DEN, DFW, DTW, HNL, IAH, KUL, LAS, LAX, MCI, MCO, MDW, MEM, MNL, MSP, MSY, NRT, OAK, OGG, OMA, ONT, ORD, PHX, SAN, SFO, SIN, SLC, SNA, STL, TPA, WNP, YQR, YVR, YYC

First flight was in DH Rapide. 17s / 6d for a 15 minute flight over Birmingham. T/O from Elmdon. Then I joined the RAF.

Next was a HP Hastings. Several tight turns over Skegness. Wonderful!

BlackBurn Beverley from RAF abingdon to RAF Luqa in Malta. 3 day stayover due to Accumalator probs (Allegedly)

Local flight from RAF Abingdon over RAF Watchfield with VIP's in a 46 Sqdn HS 748.

My next adventure was from RAF Brize Norton. VC10 to RAF Changi on Singapore Island. Stayed overnight and the next day flew to RAAF Butterworth in Malaysia by RNZAF Bristol Freighter. A never to be forgotten experience. 2.5 years later.

I flew from Penang to Singapore in a MAS 737. Lots of Bacardi and coke served by a very beautiful maiden.

Next day, VC10 back to Brize. Arriving in thick fog we landed 90 seconds late. Not bad at all.

RAF Brize Norton was to be my base for my last five years in the RAF.

Whilst stationed there, I was very lucky to get a seat for a VIP trip to Rome. The aircraft? A Bristol Brittannia. The 'Whispering Giant' What an aircraft.

My final flight in the RAF was in a C130 Hercules to Hal Far airfield in Malta. My thoughts on this A/C? When going up it got very cold and, very wet on the way down.

Since my RAF days I have only flown once. Birmingham to Frankfurt and back. It was a 737.

So as you can see, most of my flying was done in prop A/C. That's the way I want to fly. Cruising along and just loving every minute. No rush to get from A to B. Just enjoying the experience.
RAF Abingdon 1967. I met Beverley from Blackburn. Fantastic!

If you can't speak & write proper English by the 200 course level in college, it's probably best to throw in the towel...

Isn't that a free needle exchange place now?

I find it hilarious that people are slamming that Church at Yelp!
That site is to review retail stores, not the Lord's house.
Shame on those sinners!  http://www.yelp.com/biz/mission-dolores-san-francisco

I graduated from San Francisco State University. We had lots of silly courses. I knew a lady that earned her Bachelors in Human Sexuality with a minor in Black Studies.
When she told me this, I thought she was hitting on me.

I took Human Sexuality 400 at my University. I didn't bother with the under-classman level because I was already advanced in my sexuality.

UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz and New College has some odd degrees as well.

City College of San Francisco offers more evening courses of yoga, gay studies and Argentine Tango than they do calculus and physics.
Makes me scared to think about our future generation.

Every English teacher I had from elementary school up through college were all touchy, feely, pour your emotions on paper type of teacher. I didn't do well in those courses and English was always my least favorite subject in school.
