Going To Holland... Aviation Ideas?

Mon May 13, 2013 1:47 am

Greetings all,

After years of trying I am finally going to visit the motherland (Netherlands). While I am there I was thinking about checking out some aviation museums or airplane related sites.

Does anyone have any suggestions (Preferably not too esoteric, my mother will be with me), or ideas of cool things to do aviation wise while I am visiting?

Cheers

If you will be there for the awesome annual flower show at Keukenhof this is something even your mom would certainly enjoy: http://www.keukenhof.nl/en/578/fly-over-keukenhof-in-a-dakota.html

In that case, the Aviodrome is your best bet. That, and the Airforce Museum at the former Soesterberg Airforce Base are the only aviation museums we have in the Netherlands, as far as I know. There may be some smaller ones, but these two are your best bet.

The observation deck at Schphol is quite nice, including a Fokker jet. There are also supposed to be some nice viewing areas by some of the runways, but I didn't have a chance to check them out when I was there. There's also a "behind the scenes" tour http://schipholbehindthescenes.nl/

Sadly no. My mother can't standby with me on KLM easily, and the flights all look full so we booked confirmed on TS. takes the stress of non reving away and we are guaranteed to go. I will take the KL MD11 to AMS by myself later on in the year non rev.
