I'm Engaged!

Thu May 16, 2013 4:04 pm

Just a self gloss.... I proposed yesterday to the woman of my dreams at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. We are having such a great time. Well, about time to head off to dinner.

Cheers

Being engaged only means one thing: That you have to give back gifts you've received from the partner in case you do not marry.

Do not throw away any receipts.

In ours.

To be engaged is a promise to marry. And promises can be broken.

Being engaged is, in law, only one thing - a safeguard against making fruitless expenses, for example for making gifts and organizing the marriage celebration.

Nooooooo!!!

Well, I was raised Jewish and we consider it very bad luck to congratulate someone on an "incomplete occasion," for lack of a better word. An engagement or a pregnancy or any other "work in progress."

So instead of cursing you with congratulations, I will wish you the best of luck and all the happiness in the world!

I'm going to refrain from the way of the rabble, and not offer up any witticisms or silly take on this. I am only going to say that it's great news, and I'm happy for you. Enjoy this magical time.

Can happen. A guy I knew cancelled the engagement and asked for the ring back.

Anyway, congratulations. You could do worse than the Eiffer Tower.

Congratulations. Prepare yourself for the playbook   Just nod and say yes to most of the things she wants for the wedding . Anything you disagree with , come up with a good alterative.

That's a little different than returning all the gifts you were given by friends and family.

I sometimes get confused looks when I explain to friends the legal implications of being engaged. They just think it's normal to be engaged, because, err, it's part of marriage.

Anyway - good luck to DFWHeavy and his counterpart!

Haha.. thanks again everyone.. finally made it home and back to the grind of work.

We are two peas in a pod and I'm excited to see how the rest of our life plays out. Now I get to plan and book a Wedding destination and/or Honeymoon for next year. This is the exciting part for me

haha yes! The future wife plans the wedding and the current aviation geek (aren't we all? ) gets to plan the getaway. Bermuda, St. Maarten (though I do believe the bride might be competing with Maho beach for your attention... lol), Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Virgin Islands are all within a short distance of the US. Or there's Tahiti, Seychelles, Brazil, Canary Islands, etc. if you're looking for something a bit further away (though not necessarily more expensive if you do your homework). Best of luck to you.
