This law, passed in April, has now been ratified and enacted. It has been a surprisingly polarizing debate due to the very different framing of the two sides of the argument: the conservatives arguing from a Christian notion of marriage and the secularists arguing from a purely affective choice definition of marriage. As the starting points are different, so too the conclusions. The stakes are raised as marriage and adoption are part of the one law.
