Alternatives To A Pacemaker?

Fri May 24, 2013 1:45 am

A friend of mine suffers from a slow heartbeat that seems to be getting slower, his resting pulse rate is 32 -44 beats per minute.

Furthermore, when he exercises his heart rate will initially increase to around 144Bpm but then starts decreasing steadily despite maintaining or increasing his exertion level.

The Cardiologist has to run some tests but says it is highly likely he will have to implant a pacemaker and my friend wants to avoid this if at all possible.

Any one have any experience of this and / or have any ideas on alternatives to a pacemaker ?

Drugs are an option as well. But there is often a lot of trial-and-error with drugs used to regulate heart rhythm, and they sometimes have unintended consequences. Your friend's cardiologist will no doubt inform him of the risks.
If you need someone to blame / throw a rock in the air / you'll hit someone guilty
