Aviation Cable Channels Similar To Airliners.net?

Fri Jul 12, 2013 2:06 am

We subscribe to Direct TV and have hundreds of choices to choose from. I'm always interested in aviation related sources of entertainment and am wondering if there are any cable network stations that offer the great diversity that Airliners.net offers? I have looked but to no avail. I think it would be fantastic if A.net could start a cable channel. Any help?

Not that I know of and there probably will never be one.

The enthusiast base for cars and motorsports is larger than that for aviation, but even Speed is being transformed by Fox into a more general sports channel, and NBC changed the outdoor focused Versus into NBC Sports Network.

A much more workable idea would be an aviation focused YouTube channel with well produced content, not unlike Drive which I happen to enjoy very much.

Wasn't there a channel called Speedvision, later renamed Speed Channel. I remember there used to be a weekly aviation news program on it.

There was once a cable program, not a dedicated network, I use to watch called Wings. Pretty much focused on specific aircraft. I think there would really be a great interest in a cable channel such as what is offered by A.net. I am wondering if the A.net folks are thinking along those lines. Would be great. I would subscribe!

Speedvision was motorsports TV nirvana! It's current incarnation as "Speed Channel" is a depressing shell of it's former self.

The best aviation program was a series called "Silver Wings". It was a documentary about commercial aviation in the 1950's. I think it was on cable when it was first going widespread in the late 80's. I haven't seen anything about it in at least 20 years.I would be nice is maybe the Discovery Channel found this series and aired it again.

There is a show called Mighty Planes that is interesting but I find that there have not been that many shows that I have seen. Another one is called Dangerous Flights but those are the only aviation shows we get.
