I May Convert To Mac. Newest Apple Product; ITrack

Sun Jul 14, 2013 3:50 pm

Introducing the iTrack.

This is big news since I'm a PC kinda guy. Finally Apple has been paired up with 8track tape technology. I've seen some 8track tapes that are 2 hours and can hold up to 25 songs but not 500. This is ideal for long road trips.
This new gadget may even get Apple diehards such as Klaus to come back to the analog side.
I'm sold on this.

Good idea 'fly. I love my mac quite a bit. It's simple, powerful, and easy for me to edit photos, upload videos, and play music on. I originally got this for me to record music but I haven't done that yet.

Hey 'fly

You don't have to go over to the dark... er Apple side, there is little specifically Apple about this.

The concept would work equally well with any number of MP3 players.

Cheers

Agreed, from the writeup, it is pretty simple wiring. However the IPOD interface is a bit nicer than most.

From the Youtube comments
"
Thanks! It was actually pretty simple to do. Basically it's the same as those ipod to cassette adapters you can get at radioshack, just bigger. I took the head off of a junk car player and wired the left and right audio leads to the L and R leads on the ipod. The head is mounted inside the cartridge so that when you insert the tape, the head in the adapter lines up with the head in he player and that's how the audio passes through.

"
Older than I just was ,and younger than I will soo be.

That's why I DO NOT like Mac. It looks too simple - almost like a toy. If Fisher Price made computers, Apple would be it.

Thanks. That's good to know.

You're right.
In fact, Sony really screwed up by calling their version the 'Walkman'.
The Walkman is for cassettes and that is what people associate the Walkman name with. The cassette Walkman came out in 1979 and the Discman fpr Compact Disc came out 10 years later. It would only make sense that the MP3 version have a new name as well. I wish Sony called theirs the Digital Man....
Imagine who could have done the advertisements for those ads.

I may toy around with this idea. I haven't decided if I'm going to go the FM modulator route or have the stock car stereo/8track player rewired to have an AUX. line spliced in with an RCA line out.

Ha - that's a good one! But seriously 'Fly, Mac is the way to go - I was converted by my boss three years ago - he dragged me kicking and screaming into the Apple store and demo'd an iMac for me. I've never looked back.

Jonathan Ive would personally thank you for that comment. He is strong on minimalistic design, which made the iPod popular when it came out, As far as the iPhone, how simple can you get in terms of appearance while as powerful as it is. The basic design came out when other "smart phones" had a ton of little buttons to press and all of those companies have left the little button world and have worked hard to look like an iPhone. Ot iPad.

The other great part of simple is that little kids ons really old folks can both use them successfully. Both my grand kids started on our Macs when they were 3 or 4 years old. Simple games at first, growing quickly into other things. The iPad has made that type of development even faster.

Where the hell did this come from?
One of the most irritating thing about the Apple orchard is the defensiveness of the fanboys!!
A simple discussion about hacking music players into an 8 track cartridge and you feel under attack and have to start with the how wonderful and easy to use and the saviour of the world your iMacs and iPads are...

This discussion was not about that!!

Now you're sounding like someone who hates Mac users. Unix Programmer?

When the thread starter makes a comment on how simple it looks it is not ranting and raving to say that simple can be good and referencing the grandkids is reasonable. Not ranting, just a simple example that a lot of people can understand.

So where the hell did your ranting and raving come from?

I swapped to a Mac about 4 years ago and would never have anything else - once you go Mac, there's no going back
But I also admit that I am an Apple addict having a Mac, iPhone and iPad, so I may be being biased....

Nobody was being defensive at all. Notice how one person said he has a mac and that's the way to go and the other person said how the Mac and iPad and simple and intuitive to use.

It was others who were getting defensive by saying that Macs look like fisher price toys and by you saing Apple was the dark side.

I'm not taking any sides here, but you are the only one in this thread being defensive and going off topic by trying to create an argument.

Not at all defensive and no I don't hate Apple(spent a good part of my career selling and supporting the stuff)
The OP mentioned a device using a hacked iPod, likely because the maker had one(or several) lying around... I advised he didn't have to change his PC environment of choice.

It isn't just you guys, I can expect to, at least once a week, when using my tablet or phone to be questioned about why I am not smart enough to own a number of iDevices.

People I don't know point out to me how unfullfilling and difficult my life must be because a simple logo is missing from the back of my devices.

Oh boy, what did I just start.

Many of you are taking this way too seriously.

Ain't that the truth!
Living in San Francisco for many years I was surrounded by them. The Apple epicenter is just 40 miles to the south in Cupertino. I've been to MacWorld 5 times. Talk about a freakshow!  Wow!
There are some Mac fans that live for MacWorld and probably leave their house only once a year for MacWorld.
Yes Apple does have some impressive products and I do respect the engineering that goes in to their products. The simple designs along with the obsessive Cult-like followers turns me off. I've even had college professors ramble on and on about the virtues of buying Apple. These were history and political science professors mind you....
The higher price and incompatibility was another big turn off. Having to go to exclusively to an Apple store to buy all components was another turn off.
I like the ugly, utilitarian, industrial look of PCs.

Haha! He's just making a joke. He could have used a much worse term such as Apple worms or rotten Apples.
