CO Town Proposes $100 Reward For Drone Shootdowns

Fri Jul 19, 2013 2:23 am

Deer Trail, Colorado population 559. What goes up must come down out of a gun. Obviously this is likely not going to happen, but is a great way to put the tiny town on the map if nothing else.

Quote:
The resident who came up with the idea, Phillip Steel, says the ordinance would be "very symbolic" and he admits he's never seen a drone over Deer Trail. He also said he realizes that taking such an extreme action would be a federal crime.

The proposal calls for residents to pay $25 to obtain their drone hunting license and says that the town will give $100 to anyone who shoots down a drone.

I can understand privacy concerns when drones can overfly anyone's house and stream videos thousands of miles away, especially if private drones are allowed to operate, but the thing that worries me even more is shooting them out of the skies! They don't fall straight down... If I shoot one over my house, it more likely than not will land on my neighbor's. My privacy isn't worth bombing his house!

I would be more concerned about the stray bullets from a bunch of yahoos shooting their guns in the air.
