How To Recover The Data In A Digital Camera Card?

Sat Jul 20, 2013 12:23 pm

I can't gain access to my digital camera card which has lots of photos in it. What can I do to recover it?

Have you tried a USB cable into the camera or a dedicated card reader, if still an issue there is some free recovery software

http://www.piriform.com/recuva

That should recover it for you though I've never used it as my sandisk cards come with free recovery software

I'm sure there are others, you don't give your OS preference but Spin Right is one disc analyzer. It is linux based and works on any computer.

Good old photorec is also a solution:

(Once, somebody gave me back a USB flash drive. When she said "Wait, I need to delete the files..." before handing it to me, I knew what to do.)

I have very good experience with spinrite.

It is written in x86 assembly and is typically installed under freeDOS

Could always take the memory card to a camera shop which has a photo processing centre. Its a special processing machine which can restore most, if not all of your photos but it does cost a bit.

Hm. Putting the memory card into a laptop with a memory card reader wasn't mentioned yet...

If the controller chip is broken, I fear you need somebody who can replace that tiny thing. Or a professional data recovery service...

I got all my photos recovered and all the photos were put onto a CD for the same price. It cost around $60 but it was worth it as those photos couldn't be replaced. Needless to say I purchased a new card that day.

The main reason why it happens is because when you delete your photos via your camera deletion or computer deletion options, once all your photos have been deleted you need to re-format the card via the camera menu options. Re-formatting gives the card a new breath of life basically
