The Fall 2013 TV Season

Thu Sep 05, 2013 1:57 am

Soon, the networks will roll out their new shows for the 2013/2014 season. What is your spin on some of the new series? What exisiting series will have their final year? Let the arm chair critiques begin! My spin

    New Shows
  • The Millers (CBS) Looks like a flop. The characters seem un likeable (at least on advertisements)
  • The Crazy Ones: Could go either way. I feel Robin Williams is over the top and not funny. Sarah Michelle Gellar could carry it to a second chance/season.
  • We Are Men: How do you spell Flop? Why does CBS jack up their Monday Night Comedy block with these stinkers at 8:30 PM? They did it with Partners last season, The Class several years ago and who could forget that abortion Accidentially On Purpose? Jena Elfman got rooked on that one.
  • The Goldbergs (ABC) may make it, it's an updated That 80's Show.
  • American Idol: Time to call it a night and pack it in.
  • Survivor: People keep watching it so it will keep on going.
  • Hostages: Could be a hit
  • Blacklist: Could be a hit
  • The Michael Fox Show: It will be overhyped on loser network NBC so people will watch it. But recently shows with named after the star don't fare well. Naming the show after the star is so cliched 1963!
  • Hawaii 5-0 moved to the middle of the week sucks, It will probably be back on Monday.
  • CSI: The Energizer Bunny has some life left in it.
  • How I Met Your Mother: Supposedly it's final season. If it could get away from the hoaky over the top plots and stupid gimmicks. I remember when Marshall and the other dude were flying in the air that was it's Jump The Shark Moment.

I'm gonna go through and give my honest, educated opinion of all these shows:

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
The Goldbergs (ABC) may make it, it's an updated That 80's Show.

Crap.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
American Idol: Time to call it a night and pack it in.

it's what we in the metal music world call "the crap factory."

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
Survivor: People keep watching it so it will keep on going.

Jesus H. Christ that show is still going on, despite how fake it is now?

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
The Michael Fox Show

For the love of Amaterasu I hope this is successful.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
Hawaii 5-0 moved to the middle of the week sucks, It will probably be back on Monday.

Still crap.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
CSI: The Energizer Bunny has some life left in it.

crap.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
How I Met Your Mother: Supposedly it's final season.

Good thing they're ending it while it's on the downswing. I hope they don't jump any sharks.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
The Millers (CBS) Looks like a flop. The characters seem un likeable (at least on advertisements)

seems like crap.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
The Crazy Ones: Could go either way. I feel Robin Williams is over the top and not funny.

Robin Williams will make this crap.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
We Are Men:

Whose bright idea was this show?! Crap!

I've only seen a few ads for We Are Men and I find it to be nauseatingly sexist.

Is it in fact slated for Monday nights? That explains it. Networks vie fiercely for female viewers on Monday nights, when menfolk are presumed glued to MNF. CBS is expecting women to tune in to see the male gender lampooned with total abandon.

(The same sort of thing happened on that godoxious Ally McBeal show some years back. I was stuck one night at my sister's place and she and Mom were watching it (I had my crosswords), I overheard one of the female characters tell a man, "What a pathetic gender you are."

(Anyone wanna bet on what would happen if a male character had said the same thing to woman?)
Pancakes are delicious.

If we watch any us programmes its on dvd so i'll have to wait for a few seasons to see if any of the above rates.

How I Met Your Mother

A frend lent us this box set, not bad and only 20 min long so if we don't have much time it fits well.

Quoting zippyjet (Thread starter):
Jump The Shark Moment.

What does this mean?

Also, we'll start Homeland soon and i head its good, true?

I have a feeling the first new show of the fall 2013 TV season that gets cancelled will be the ne show called Dads that will be airing on FOX.

When I was a kid, I couldn't wait for the new TV season with it's promise of new shows. Over the years, I have pretty much given up on most 'network' TV but for the NFL games. Far too many of the same stale formula (un)reality shows, sitcoms, copy/detective shows, and so on. I wish we had more nuanced shows, that talked about real subjects or had characters more like most Americans, that were rooted in the reality of what families and individuals go through.

Quoting ltbewr (Reply 7):

No offense to our British, Sweedish and other friends not in the USA but, American TV copycats shows especially British and Sweedish. Of course we water it down and overhype it. I never liked the Office. And a lot of the (Un) Reality crap started life in Europe or Asia. Today, everything is run by bean counters and lawyers and elites in LA and NYC. They feel what's good for them is good for the nation and that extends to TV.

Survivor is over the top and takes itself way too seriously. Something tells me that one of these type shows will have a contestant croak. Now before you all have kittens, I wouldn't put it passed the networks to fake this and create some water cooler buzz.
