House Calender 2014 Released

Fri Nov 01, 2013 2:55 am

And Eric Cantor shows how much he hates to work for We The People for his huge paycheck. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow...k-schedule-for-2014-212306623.html

Somehow, it's Obama's fault because since he won't negotiate over his signature law, the GOP has no reason to come to work.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

Would you call it, in your face? What does this say about the people in his district? Can we be this stupid. Tonight my wife got a call from the Democratic party looking for a donation. She told me that she told them , no we would like to throw them all out, anybody in office. My wife is not very political, but I have to give her credit for that one.

I would love to see the day when there are no (D) or (R) anywhere, but, until then, I will support the lesser of two evils.

The problem with this is that take away the letters and you're left with conservatives, moderates, and liberals, so in reality in politics people will always be grouped by some category, whether officially or unofficially. This does open the door for cooperation across the spectrum as more moderate conservatives/liberals can hold the sway by working with either side of the aisle.

I'm willing to bet that some Democrats do favor reforms to SS and Medicare, just like some Republicans do favor gay marriage and some degree of gun control, but expressing something that goes against a standard set nationally is a suicide mission politically speaking. In a system with no party, I think they would be the ones to set the agenda.

My Representative's District office is down the hall from mine, and I park three spaces over from him. When he's in town, he is almost always at the office before I am there (which is typically before 7:00 a.m.), and often is still there when I leave at 7:00 p.m. or so. From my acquaintance with him, I doubt he's playing Angry Birds; he has proven to be very responsive to his constituents.

One data point.

Two points: He is probably also busy raising money for the next election and I write and call my Congress people when topics come up that I feel are important to me. I do get a form letter back that is on topic, so I know they have people doing things.

I just think it is outrageous that the next Congress will literally be a do-nothing Congress even worse than this year. Why should they get paid so much and receive such sweet benefits for working only 119 days? I want that job!

But, I would actually be trying to work because I believe in getting paid for doing the job I was chosen to do.

I agree. However, the media and a small minority in one party DEMANDS labels be put on everyone and those labels be clung to.

Has anybody been able to locate calendars for 2000-2012? Really, without that small bit of data, we don't know what this means. I took a quick look, but didn't really come up with anything.

Looking at the calendar, it really doesn't look that different from what would be expected in an election year, where quite a few of these folks will face primary challengers.

But, you know what, these guys do work in their districts. My Congress-critter, who I am hardly fond of, spends plenty of time in town. Doing town-halls and speeches. He doesn't do the local talk show anymore...he referred to it as his bi-weekly root canal. Maybe he'll come back now that we have a new host.

He'd be nuts if he wasn't! Although he is reasonably conservative in doctrine, he has nonetheless drawn a Tea Party opponent. Could make things interesting...

I wish more people would do so (and no, emails or clicking on a "me-too" link sent you by an advocacy group does not count). Most elected representatives actually do care what their constituents think!

I've always gotten an answer when I've sent an email. But, I agree, nothing beats a letter to show you care.

They shouldn't worry about a primary challenger. They should be worried about doing their job.

True, but it would be unrealistic to assume that they wouldn't. What would you do if your boss told you that you have to convince him, through social functions and focus groups, in addition to your actual job, to keep you on 6 months before your evaluation?

Then again, looking at the calendar again, I don't see a whole lot of 'extra' time off during the primary season...except those 2 weeks in April.

Again, I'd be interested in seeing how this calendar stacks up to others in the passed decade.

For some reason this topic made me imagine for a moment that the House was releasing a wall calendar. I got a horrible mental image of John Boehner in a mankini as Mr January.

I have to go and vomit now.
