Johnny Hallyday, the 'French Elvis', dies at 74

Thu Dec 07, 2017 8:11 pm

France’s biggest rock star, Johnny Hallyday, the leather-trousered “French Elvis” who sold more than 110m albums over a career spanning more than half a century, has died aged 74. ... ung-cancer

He was known for a powerful voice, energetic performances and big concerts with lots of fireworks and grandiose entrances (riding his Harley, dropped from a helo, etc.).

I can't say I was a fan of his but I contend he was/is a bigger star in France than Elvis was/is in the US, mostly because "Johnny" as he was called didn't really have any competition for the top spot.

There will be a national homage paid to him Saturday on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

An iconic song from him :

RIP Johnny
New Technology is the name we give to stuff that doesn't work yet. Douglas Adams
