What's A.net's guideline on Boeing Customer Code for planes produced after 2016?

Sun Feb 18, 2018 2:45 am

Last year I uploaded a 737-800 photo to the database. Later I noticed that the version under that photo says "Boeing 737-800", so I tried to correct the information to "Boeing 737-89P". However, after several trials, screeners never accepted my request.

The photo is here:

Last week, when I was checking some Boeing customer codes on Wikipedia, I noticed some words:

In 2016, Boeing announced that they would no longer apply customer codes to any aircraft produced after a certain point, which would lead to their designators being the "generic" type for the model. The codes were removed from the type certificates for each model with effect from the production line number shown below:

Boeing 737 Next Generation: line number 6082
Boeing P-8 Poseidon: line number 6020
Boeing 747-8: line number 1534
Boeing 767: line number 1102
Boeing 777: line number 1422

Then I realized why the screener never accepted my request on correcting my 738 photo, because the l/n of the plane is after 6082.

What made me confused is, yesterday I tried to correct the version info for some photos of Emirates 77W A6-EPQ l/n 1423 (The first 3 photos in the page displayed "Boeing 777-31H/ER", which are technically wrong. The last 3 displayed "Boeing 777-300/ER" correctly.), the screener changed all "Boeing 777-300/ER" to "Boeing 777-31H/ER" instead...

Here's the link:

My friend told me the solution that Planesspotters.net has is to still keep the codes on all 737NG, 748, 767 and 777 produced after certain l/n numbers. Obviously, A.net has some conflicts here. So what's the guideline for those planes on A.net?

This thread was posted in the Photography forum in January 2017: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1353727
It explains our policy on the Boeing customer codes, which seems to be the same as you mentioned above.

And just a small correction, the screeners only screen photos and were are currently unable to alter any info during screening. The editors safeguard the database and are in charge of corrections.

Thank you so much on the clarification! However, this still does not explain why the editor ignored my corrections and changed all the version of "Boeing 777-300/ER" back to "Boeing 777-31H/ER" of those Emirates 77W photos instead...

Likely a result of a misunderstanding. I will E-mail the editors regarding this.
