Unmarked 744 At YYZ

Wed Aug 08, 2001 1:50 pm

I flew into Toronto/LBPIA arriving about 1927h on Mon 6 August. Just as we taxied to our gate at B pier of T3, a 744 pulled away from a gate on the next pier.

It had an all-green tail, as though it had once flown for Pakistan International or EvaAir, the body was all white, but no titles whatsoever. There were paint patches where some titles had been painted over.

A GTAA employee I spoke to said it belonged to Air Atlanta, an Icelandic airline he said was 'taking over for Air France.' Anyone know more about this aircraft or Air Atlanta? (Sorry spotters, I couldn't see the regs from where I was).

it's not hard to see unmarked 743 at yyz t3 recently.

Just to confirm, through the month of August, Air France will use Air Atlanta aircraft for some services to Canada.

Here's part of Air France's notice to the Canadian Transportation Agency:

August 3, 2001
APPLICATION by Société Air France doing business as Air France (hereinafter Air France), on behalf of itself and Flugfelagid Atlanta H/F carrying on business as Air Atlanta (hereinafter Air Atlanta) for an approval pursuant to section 60 of the Canada Transportation Act, S.C., 1996, c. 10, and section 8.2 of the Air Transportation Regulations, SOR/88-58, as amended, to permit Air France, while providing its scheduled international service between France and Canada, to use aircraft and flight crew provided by Air Atlanta, from the date of this Decision until August 31, 2001.

Air France submits that due to labour actions, it requires the ability to use alternate aircraft if its own aircraft becomes unavailable.

You know. I thought I saw that one a couple of weeks ago too... I also saw an Alitalia 742 parked a fair distance away from the Terminal...

Might have been a 743; I didn't get a chance to see winglets.

Anyone know who was the previous owner? I would like to know the provenance of the green tail.
