The Drinking Age On Flights

Sat Aug 11, 2001 12:11 am

Well, is it the age of majority at the destination, or the origin of the flight?

Oh well, they gave me champagne on a Delta plane when I was 15, so I guess they don´t handle it that strict. It might have helped, though, that the flight in question was from Greece to Germany...

To Answer Skyhawks queastion the drinking age in Canada is either 18 or 19 depending on the province. Good question AC_340 I have been wondering the same thing. I guess I will be drinking on the AC flight as soon as I board in Washington.

In the 1970s I regularly flew between college and home. In those days I was rarely asked for ID and had no problem being served alcohol. Maybe all that facial hair and a smoke in hand helped a bit on that score.

I'd like to see a state try to enforce it's drinking age on an airplane flying a few thousand feet above it! Who's jurisdiction would that fall under? The state where the airplane is owned? is flying over?

If you live in texas, they'll shoot you down.

I have no idea as to what the age is in Canada. That's why I asked. Some of the provinces are 19 and some 18. I believe it is the age at the destination but I'm not sure.

I need to lease some planes from the Netherlands and operate special "booze and weed" charters from select US cities.

I wondered about that overwater. Fly TWA and once you are out past SFO and the movie starts....

But their policy is no one served under 21 on any of their flights (or so they say). They also say only two carry-on bags...

Iainhol is correct.

It's the legal age of the country where the aircraft is registered. In Canada, we go by 19 y/o on the aircraft. (I don't think it matters what province the a/c is registered to)

Example:

XYZ Airlines flight 123, YYZ-LAX

Any passenger 19 years of age or older may drink on this flight, as well as the flight back.
