Viscount In Current LH Colours At Fra?

Sun Aug 12, 2001 8:48 pm

Hi everybody,

when I spent the day yesterday at Frankfurt airport, I saw a really strange thing: a Viscount 814 which was painted in the current Lufthansa (Training) colour scheme was parked in some remote corner of the airport. Can anyone tell me more about that?

Thanks,

I believe it is being used for training tug drivers in the noble art of moving airplanes in and out of hangars and other tight spots.
SAS uses an old Caravelle for this purpose at Stockholm Arlanda.

That looks great! Imagine this: A TeamLufthansa Dash 8 or Fokker 50 has technical problems and can't make its flight. They want to cancel that flight, but then, somebody thinks "Oh wait! We still have got this Viscount!" Well THAT would be cool!

This LH Viscount 814D serves as a firsthand practical experience for trainees of Lufthansa's technical and mantaince department at FRA. The aircarft's cockpit and cabin still remain the same.
