well 1. AA pretty much has a monopoly at San Juan and the local goverment isn't too happy about that. (Actually most of the Greater and upper parts od the Lesser Antillies are to trilled about AA too.)
2a. San Juans code is SJU
3. AA already has a large and established Hub out of San Juan and any airline attempting to compete with AA better establish a hub in San Juan quick. Also be ready for a vicious fare war, AA doesn't seem to like competition in t Carribean.
I reject your reality and subsitute my own

With the exception being DFW & MIA, AA seems to misuse or neglect its considerable assets all over the place causing its service to lack thus they leave many holes for other carriers to get into.

TWA is unfortunately an airline on its last legs. It needs to make some money, or its gonna be in trouble. AA has so much money that it will not tolerate true competition in the SJU market. It will simply drive them out. TWA's only hope of succeeding is to play a VERY, VERY secondary role. I'm sure that TWA knows this, and is very afraid of pissing AA off. This is something that they likely will avoid at all cost. Don't expect TWA to become the next megacarrier to the caribbean. It is simply trying to drum up some extra business for itself. Also, please check your spelling, it only takes a minute.

Reality Check

Mon Jun 21, 1999 7:52 am

TWA need to get its house in order first. Concentrate on its strengths such as STL hub and its european routes. Build up a nice,no large cash cushion, and then go expanding. It also helps expanding where the world's 4th biggest airline is NOT.

TWA does not have marketing tie ins with cruise lines. AA does.
TWA does not have a major presence in the carribean,AA does.
TWA has not fared well with new hubs either, their last hub was in ATLANTA. Somebody at TWA must love pain!

The sad thing or funny depending on how you look at it,is that AA will beat, no PILE DRIVE TWA using American Eagle. To get beaten up by a regional airline. What a shame.

William, I agree with you 100%. Twa741, if you do use punctuation and check your spelling, no one can understand what you are trying to say! The fact that they are taking 1 new plane every ten days has little to do with their balance sheet.
Mr. Twa747100, please do some research for yourself. Look up how much money Twa has LOST in the past year, two years, thr...wait...they haven't been consistently profitable for more than TEN years!!!! Don't get me wrong, I like the airline, and feel bad for them too, but they have no chance against AA. After you have figured out some Twa numbers, look at AA's record. Look how much they made last year alone. Twa simply cannot beat AA under any circumstances.

True. ( I will check my punctuation) If twa dose not get more money, then twa
willn't make it with aa. But sju's mayor is mad at amercain, so maybe twa
has a slight chance.

I am going to San Juan for the 4th of July week-end and recently bought TWA tickets....it cost me $410 vs. the cheapest AA fare of $650 with 1 or 2 stop over. I dont usually fly TWA (it will be my first), but the plane is a 757 and I dont see why I would prefer AA, which I find extremely arrogant as an airline (not employees but the management)

Don't Confuse Arrogance With Self Confident

Wed Jun 23, 1999 7:59 am

Yes its easy to beat up on AA,but many of the things we take for granted such as frequent flyer programs, yield management,Sabre computers, better hub utilization, don't forget SuperSavers from the 80's and so.

So do not confuse arrogance with self confidence, for AA to be humble would be lying.

TWA got AA on this one! They beat AA to the
route(LAX-San Juan) and will make the $$$ that
AA should have since AA runs the Puerto Rican
economy. Speaking off AA in San Juan, The Eagle
people are pissed off at AA for screwing them
over, should be interesting to see what AA does.
They need that market.
