What Regionals Use Jet Bridges At Your Airport?

Tue Aug 14, 2001 4:39 am

I am curious to know what regionals use the jet bridges at your airport? At my local airport, TVC (Traverse City Cherry Capital Airport)

AE ERJ's have their own jet bridge. Although, if there are more than one aircraft there at the same time, then obviously they dont have a choice but to use stairs.

Air Wisconsin doesnt. The CRJ's DO328's and occasional Avros have to use stairs. They dont have a jet bridge of their own. Would they use one if they had it or is it standard for Air Wisconsin not to use jet briges anyway?

Express Airlines 1 CRJ doesnt use it. I think this is standard at all airports.

I would like to hear about your airport. We are getting a new terminal soon and I am wondering if Comair, Continental Express, or any others use jet bridges...

Some of Air Canada's CRJ's use Jet Bridges. Here in Winnipeg (YWG) they do most of the time, but we only have one CRJ here at a time and no ERJ's.

AC_A340 reminded me: Air Canada's subsidiary Air BC, I think, uses jet bridges at DIA for their BAe-146s as well.

At Rochester, New York: (ROC)

Midway Airlines CRJ's use a jetbridge. Til Wednesday when they leave the market.

American Eagle ERJ's use stairs.

Continental Express ERJ's use a jetbridge. Continental added a second jetbridge in mid-2000 although they only have ERJ's to Newark. They fly ATR's to CLE and B1900's elsewhere. These do not use the other jetbridge.

Comair CRJ's use stairs, although Delta has a jetbridge at the Comair gate. When ACA DRJ's came to ROC before the LGA Slottery, they used stairs.

Northwest Airlink ARJ's use a jetbridge that is also used by DC-9s and (when they were using them) 722's.

At DCA:

All US Airways Express a/c including a large number of ERJ's park remotely and use stairs.
I've boarded an American Eagle ATR at DCA on a jetbridge but don't know if AE uses ERJ's at all there. Skyway DRJ's use stairs.
Air Canada CRJ's use stairs.

I saw Midway using a jetbridge at DCA recently with their CRJs. It was on the old "satellite" concourse on the south end of DCA.

Well we don't have too many RJ's here in Southern California. In fact, the only ones we do get are the SkyWest flights out of SNA, going to SLC and you still have to hike across the tarmac to get to the plane.

LAX, ONT, SAN, BUR, LGB have no RJ flights. The closest airport with any reasonable amount of RJ action is FAT, and there'll be no jetways there for at least a couple more years.

Mobile Regional Airport:

Continental Express: ERJ's all use jetbridge.
Delta Air Lines: ASA uses Fire Stairs, Comair uses the Delta jetbridge with a special stairwell hooked to the end, leading to the ramp. ASA sometimes will use this also.

Northwest Airlink: Fire Stairs at the end of the concourse.
United Express: Stairs
USAirways Express: Stairs

The Turbo-Walk is used when wheelchairs are on the flights. This is a ramp that hooks up to the RJ, and leads to the ramp.

Gulfport/Biloxi

ASA/Delta uses the ramp for their ATR/EMB. The CRJ uses the jetbridge most of the time.

Continental Express uses stairs.

AirTran, Southeast, and Northwest use the jetbridges.

Thanks guys. When my airports (TVC) new terminal opens here is what I am hearing the jet bridge assignments will be...

NW and affiliates X2 (Express Airlines 1 doesnt use them now. Just the Mesaba Avros and NW flights use them).

American Eagle X1

Air Wisconsin may have one, they dont now though.

There will be four or five jet bridges (I have seen two different drawings depicting both  Confused) and two "regular" gates.

Now... Do airlines ever have the "If you want us, we get a jet bridge or we dont come" attitude? I guess I am just wondering if not having a jet bridge would stop any new airlines from serving the market. Any opinions?

Thanks again.

At Rapid City:

Real Jetway: UAX/Air Wisconsin BAe 146, NW DC-9
"Mini-jetway" (sort of a covered metal walkway): Skywest CRJ
Airstair: UAX Dornier 328

Matt D-
You're correct that we here at FAT have our fair share of RJ's. In fact in Sept. we're getting CRJ's to SFO, replacing the Brasilias. One clarification-- we will have RJ capable jet bridges when the new terminal is completed about 10 months from now.

Air Canada F28s: Jet Bridge

Continental ERJs: Jet Bridge

Delta/COMAIR CRJs: Stairs

Delta/Skywest CRJs: Stairs

NWA/Mesaba RJ 85s: Jet Bridge (all at the end of the C Concourse)

NWA/Express I CRJs: Stairs (at the regional aircraft apron)

Air Canada's CRJs use jetbridges at YYZ, as do SkyWest's at BOI.

Personally I prefer walking across the ramp to board RJs.

They got a couple of those little covered-walkway-type "mini-jetbridges" on the regionals end of the transborder pier,at YUL. Though they'll probably have something fancier, more permanent-looking and more numerous too, I guess, when the new transborder pier's finished in another year and a half or so.

Ok, now, would an airline not come into an airport because they cannot use a jet bridge, even if they have they have the capabilities to use stairs?

No I doubt that, though it is a small accommodation that the biz travel passengers would remember, or at least not fuss about it missing, especially if the weather were cold, rainy, snowy, when they arrived.

At BDL, COEX uses jetways for erjs. AWEx, which shares one of continental's gates, puts stairs up to the end of the jetway. Midway uses the jetway for the CRJ. USEx & AEagle only fly turboprops and board through stairs at the end of the jetway, like AWEx & COEx's turboprops.

At DTW the NW ARJ and CRJ use jetbridges, the Saab 340's dont. Comair CRJ uses a jetbridge.

Comair doesnt use jet bridges at all airports though do they? I seem to remember photos seeing them using stairs. Blue Ridge doesnt use them at IAD, but, something tells me that at other airports (the ones that UAL is dumping, like MBS) that they will use them. There is a jet bridge available. I dont think they would let it goto waste.

thats wierd, when did Comair start using jet bridges at DTW????

I saw Comair and ASA RJs use stairs when i was last their a couple months ago.

I don't recall seeing any bridges for the Express 1 CRJs either. I thought they got loaded with the Saab 340s in the commuter section while the ARJ-85s loaded via bridge.

American Eagle and United Express also use stairs for their RJs

Here at PIT nothing smaller than NW ARJ's use the jetbridge. Though I stand to be corrected. How about the NW CRJ's that recently came here? I know when the NW SAAB's where here you had to walk with no bridge. Everything USex uses no bridge, including the ERJ's (unless you count walking down the jetway, then down the stairs accros the ramp). And no Boeing757fan, Comair dosn't use the jetbridges here either.

At MKE, all the 328jets have 'pods' that are shared with the Beech 1900s. The Air Wis. 146s and the Air Canada CRJs use bridges...Is the 328 capable of using a jetway?

I have never seen the 328 use a jet bridge, but, I am not to familiar with the type as I really started seeing them only when Air Whiskey took over Great Lakes post at TVC in May.

At ATL, the only RJs that use jetways are Midway and Continental Express. I'm not sure if America West Express uses them.

At DSM, the AE ERJ's use the jetbridge and then at the end they use what I call an "adaptor" to bridge the gap between the door of the plane and the edge of the jetbridge.

ASA and Comair's CRJs use the stairs.

I think NW Airlink's ARJs use the jetbridge also but I don't know how well they fit together.

I don't know what FRJs from Midwest Express do honestly.
