KLM, Why No 757's?

Fri Aug 17, 2001 12:29 am

Just wondering why KLM doesn't operate any 757's to fill the gap between the 767's and 737's.

Because KLM operates the Boeing 737-900 to fill the gap between the 737 and the 767-300ER. There still remains quite a big gap, but I think KLM does not really need the 757-200/300 because they do not have any destinations that really need 757 aircraft. Either the 737 or the 767 is enough.

And were the 757 does fit, they can send the flight to Transavia Smile

Your wish has been granted Jwenting. Transavia will get rid off their old 737s. They will also get rid off their 757s! In the future Transavia will only have 737s off the 700 and 800 series. The old planes should be fased out in roughly 2 years.

You've got 2 wishes left, use them wisely.  Smile

KLM is/will be a "virtual 757" operator with its 737-900s. Though lacking the range and payload capabilities of the 757, the 739 typically seats 10-15 fewer pax than the seven-five in 2 or 3 class configuration. The 739 has a full payload range of more 2,000 miles, sufficient for all routes for KLM is ever likely to need a 170-pax type.
