I Was In CMB

Fri Aug 17, 2001 9:16 pm

Hi guys,
sorry for the late message but i just got back from home where i did not have access to a computer. As some might recall, i was flying to CMB two weeks ago on EK 16 on my way down to SIN.
I had the opportunity to take some pics there, if anyone is interested, drop me a msg and i will try to get them on a webpage near you  Wink/being sarcastic
On the airbase, i saw two destroyed fighters (Mig 23 or 21 like) and on the int. ap there was the wreckage of a 330 right on the apron and some other parts piled up at a hangar.

Nice to see that you are back. How was Emirates? I am sure that they were brilliant, as usual.

Yes, I would dearly love to see some your photos ASAP! Maybe you can add it on to the database here, as the Sri Lanka section is a bit bare...

How were you able to get any photos at Colombo Airport(Bandarnaike Airport)? Because, when I went last time (jan 99) taking photos were banned.

What aircraft did you fly? As I heard that the B777s on the Jakarta extension route now go via Male instead, With the Colombo service set to resume on the 27th August (we hope so!)

Hi again!
i will have them on a webpage soon...i will let you know of the URL and i will also submit tem to guess the webpage is faster  Wink/being sarcastic

Yes, Emirates is really a fine airline, plenty of food, friendly crew, everything really great.

We were flying from FRA to DXB on a 330 (EK16) and from there on to SIN via CMB on a 772 (EK76) on Aug. 3
Downtime in CMB was about one hour, i took the photos through the windows (sitting on K) during landing and taxiing.
While the plane was sitting on the apron directly opposite the wreck of the 330 i was able to see it through the front camera view on the video screen. During refulling and while new pax got aboard i was in the back chatting with a f/a and i even could get out on the gangway at the port side of the plane....unfortunately, the view was not so good because of the gangway in front where the pax boarded.
After getting back to the seat we taxiied (?-strange word) to the rwy again (yeah, that's obvious, i know) and then i spotted the other remains...... to scan those pics back soon
