CO 764 VS.

Sat Aug 18, 2001 3:25 am

I was recently looking at a back issue of Airliners magazine (no. 67) and noticed the new pictures of the 767-400 of Continental and Delta. But in the captions it says that the seating configuration of the CO is 35 Business First and 200 in Coach, and in the DL 764 it is 36 Business Elite and 251 in coach. While the business cabins are pretty much the same, why is there a large difference in economy class? Does this mean that CO has more space in economy than Delta? I know CO's configuration is 3-3-3, so is Delta's 3-4-3? Any answers please!! Thanks!

Delta's 764's are for domestic use. The configuration in first is 2-2-2 and very cramped for first class. And by the way coach configurations on all 767's are 2-3-2 not 3-3-3 or 3-4-3. Anyhow, Continental 764 first class is configured 2-1-2 so they need more of the airplane to have 35 seats and therefore there's less room for coach. This is why DL has more coach seating.

My pleasure. Also, because CO 764's hold fewer passengers they also have slightly greater range (maybe 150nm more) just because payload is always less on the CO 764's. Both carriers use the same GE engine.

For the 412,367 time:

CONTINENTAL operates INTERNATIONALLY-configured aircraft with 35 BusinessFirst (55" pitch and 2-1-2 arrangement) seats and 200 Coach seats.

DELTA operates DOMESTICALLY-configured aircraft with 36 First Class (40" pitch and 2-2-2 arrangement) and 251 Coach seats.

It's like saying a JAL domestic 747SR has more people in it than BA's 747-400s and thus BA is a better airline. It's not neccesarily true because you're comparing Chalk with Cheese.

Delta's aircraft are used on flights on flights of less than five hours, and those low-yield flights to Hawaii. Continental uses their aircraft for high-yield intercontinental travel to Europe & South America.

PLEASE research previous posts before asking elementary questions.

My guess is that CO doesn't want to lose business to AA's "more room throughout coach."

Kiss My L-1011,

CAN YOU READ?

N863DA correctly explained the situation regarding our 767-400ER. DL has a high-density DOMESTIC FIRST CLASS configuration, while we have a low-density INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS configuration. Coach class is essentially the same thing on both airlines, but we have PTV's in all seats, while DL has PTV in First only.
