I'm a fan of NW because of almost congestion-free MSP, but their fleet is too diverse (split between Boeing/AB), too old, and most of their regional planes are Saab 340s.

Have to say CO--most intelligent fleet planning. Reasons:

-Well balanced, young and relatively similar jets (except, obviously, for their MD-80s) in a good size range, from the 735 through the 772.

-All-jet CO Express fleet strategy--nearly complete.

I could say the same for AA, but they still have their 727s/MD-80s/F100s, plus for a while they'll still have TWA's DC-9s and MD-80s. DL too, once they get rid of their 727s/MD-11s.

I think CO has the best fleet, it's certainly the newest fleet. After their fleet modernization they will have B-737-700/800/900, B-757-200/200ER/300, B-767-200/300/400ER, B-777-200/200ER, and the ERJ-135/145.

Air NZ have a nice fleet, reasonably young, but what about Emirates - once the A310s have gone, they will have a fleet without compare - especially when their new orders come in

KissL1011,

CO has not ordered the B767-300 and I doubt CO will buy the B777-200. B777-200ER definitely, but not the B777-200 (the so-called 'A' version).

I have to agree that CO has a nice fleet going, both on economics and flexibility.

CX has a good fleet structure set-up, with the A340-600 and B777-300ER possible without affecting the operating economics too seriously. EK similar.

British Airways Has The Best Fleet?

Sun Aug 19, 2001 1:42 am

I think British Airways has the best fleet, since she owns the largest Boeing 747 and 777 fleet in Europe, and her Concorde services are much better than Air France. I love BA !!!

In Terms Of What...

Sun Aug 19, 2001 2:37 am

As a stock holder, I would say airlines like SW, that have one type of aircraft, thus lowering costs for training, maintenance, etc...

In terms of being a passenger, AA would be a good bet because of a wide variety of aircraft: 727, 737, 767, 777, MD-80, A-300, F-100. Plus they inherit TWA's 717s.

Do they still have the DC-10?
In other words, as a passenger, I would have a chance at flying on a wide variety of planes, and when I book a flight, I specifically choose such things.

I would also say that for such a large feelt, Continental has a relatively new and all Boeing fleet, minus the MD-80's and DC-10's. In other words, they are headed to an all Boeing fleet. I don't say that with any Boeing bias, I simply think that it is rare to have such a large fleet made up of the same manufacturer.

I also applaud jetBlue. It's rare that a new carrier can afford new planes, and I could see them in many years operating a huge fleet of A320s.

When I book, the first thing I look at is equip.

Then flight times. I am a college student, so of course I have to fly with whoever offers the best deal.

Lately, on my way between DFW- Washington DC, that has been United.

I have been priviledged to fly on the Airbus 320 and the 737-291. Also, a couple of second-gen 733/735, but I find those planes really kinda boring. Nothing bad about them- safe and reliable, plus economical- but the Airbus was special, and the old classic 732 was too.

I also like American's fleet, HOWEVER... While they offer a diverse fleet, like 99.125% of their fleet is made up of MD-80s. I prefer those to 733s, but they get old after a while...

Continental. Just as a comment. I've flown on CO's 737's and MD80's. I prefer the MD-80 over the 737. MD's are QUIETER, smoother, longer and with better legroom. So having them in your fleet isn't bad at all. Have you actually been on one MD bashers?

Continental has the best.

I'm sorry but I'm just not a fan of the 80. Here is why: Although they are very quiet and comfortable not comfortable enough for the long flights TWA and AA use them on. Personally, I am an IFE freak. Also, if you get screwed and get a seat in the back of an 80 for a 4 hour flight, it will be very uncomfortable w/ the noise.

Finally, and this is just a personal opinion, but when I fly a the MD-80, the interiors come off so plain looking and not like I'm on an airplance at all. At least all the Boeing and Airbus planes have interesting interiors. I want to feel like I'm on a real plane, not some cheap last minute deal (althought I know the MD-80 is anything but, however you can't dispute that by looking at the inside of one you get that feel)

Anyway, back to the subject on hand, CO indeed has the best fleet and I think AA and NW have the worst with all those Douglas Products.

Appart from the fact that their planes look stunning in theor c/s, they all have 747s and the fleet age is quite young.

Easily Delta, on who else can you fly a 777 on a 400 mile trip and a brand spanking new 764 on the way back? Delta has the most variety of any US major, maybe of any airline in the world. So in terms of variety and which airline to fly to fly on a plane you havent before, the answer is clearly Delta. For economics I would say Continental and American.

Hi !!!

I agree with Godbless !

Hamburg International : only 737-700
Fly FTI : only 320-200

>>> not so expensive for service and crew because only one aircraft type.

Greetings from Germany

Yep, AA737-823 Said it, American has to many MD-80's. Yes I know Delta has a lot but AA is the worlds largest MD-80 carrier.

Delta has the best fleet, and its easy to get on any of Delta's planes w/out going International.

I think I'm the only person yet to say this, but I think that BOTH Continental and Delta have very good fleets because they are both young, they are both ergonomic, and they are both very comfortable. International viewers please keep in mind that I have never flown on a non-U.S. carrier so I wouldn't know about international fleets.

What about LH and KLM??

I don't know about the best fleet, but surely Balkan Bulgarian Airlines has the worst fleet nowadays - 1 own Tu 154M and one on leasing, one or two An-24.
Soon one B737-400 will be got on leasing (WOW Smile/happy/getting dizzy)
This makes the best fleet in the Balkans, yeah!!!

p.s. i hate the bulgarian politicians who sold the national flag carrier to the israeli mafia...
